Hi this problem has many reasons : - no paper or error in paper feed sensor. - jammed paper in printer thats prevent it continue. - try to disconnect usb cable and if its stop lighting reinstall the driver - else you must search about hardware errors

documents the margins are too big and asks to go into the manual feed

you have a paper jam pull out the paper tray, check for the jam if all is well, open the printer, check under the printer cartridge, then the back a little piece of paper will cause the jam it is a good idea to use canned air to clean your printer, under the cartridge and the rollers on a regular basis (once a month)
make sure the rear part of your paper tray is not pressed too tightly against rear of paper. it will prevent the paper from raising up fully to the feed roller. you can also try cleaning the feed roller if that doesn't do it.
Have you gone into the printer properties and changed the feed tray? If not to do this go to file and then print ( if hit the print button on the toolbar it will just print), beside the printer model there is a properties button, in there near the bottom you can change which tray you want the paper to feed from.
