The capacitors for the power source are failing. This causes a short burst of power to get to the lamps, but then they cannot hold a charge to continuously power the lamps. You will have to replace the monitor. I suggest checking your warranty status and replacing the monitor.
If you get a flashing screen which show your screen for few minutes and then goes blank it may be an issue with the Monitor.
Try to restart the computer and go to BIOS setup screen. If you experience the same issue in BIOS then the monitor needs a repair or replacement for sure.
check the power cord of the monitor and all so the input output cord from monitor to cpu if the fit of the cord is uniform proper because if some of the fit is turn down the monitor is mall function. after you check the same problem that you encounter the monitor has a problem don't not think that you cpu has a problem.. only the monitor..
1. You can see images on the screen for a few minutes. That means there is nothing wrong with your computer.
2. When your screen goes blank, if you disconnect and then reconnect the monitor, it shows fine again for a few minutes before going blank (or dim) again. That means the problem is not with you video card.
3. It always shows the image after reconnection for exactly a few minutes before going blank again. yes? this means that there is nothing wrong with your cable.
Conclusion: Sorry, but you do not have many options. I bleieve that the problem is with your monitor that's going bad. Its far cheaper to get it replaced than to repair it.
Check the power options to verify that the screen is not powered down after to short a time. It is in the control panel under power options or in a Dell management utility
Well here is a test you can do. When the monitor goes black, take a flash light and hold at it a angle towards the monitor, if you can still faintly see the image then you have a blacklight/inverter issue. Another common issue with this is the capacitors on the inside. They will also cause this. If you dont see an image then the inverter will need replacing. As the steps for replacing all of this are quite long, ill post a few helpful tuts :).

I know these arent your monitor but its generally the same idea with all of them. If this doesnt work it will be a inverter issue and if it comes to that just let me know and ill be glad to help :D
it is your monitor inside problem, you need to know follow issue:
1) inverter board some where the component got less connection
like MOSFET drive or capacitor swelling need to resoldering or change.
2) the back light lamps worn that most cause this symptom, need check or adjust inverter driver to match them work well
3) DC power supply filter capacitor swelling should be this problem, check and fix it.

Most monitors will say "Power save mode" when they can tell through residual voltage that the signal lead is plugged into a machine, but there's no picture being transmitted. The four states of a monitor are:
* Off entirely. * Switched on, plugged into a computer but no video signal being received - usually displays "analog power save mode" or "digital power save mode" for a few seconds, then blanks. Comes back to life the moment a video signal is received. This state is the default in full power saving mode. * Switched on, not plugged into a computer. Some monitors don't display anything, some go into power saving mode, some fly "CHECK SIGNAL CABLE" or a similar message around the screen. Picture is restored when the signal cable is plugged back into the computer * On fully, receiving an image, and displaying.
Unplug the cable from your PC, if the monitor shows a test image, the monitor is fine and the problem is with your graphic card.
If you dont see nothing on-screen after unpluging the cable from the PC, then the monitor in damaged. Send it to repair.

then it points to 1 reason:
the screen is heating up and the automatic circuit shuts it down...
try locating it some cooler place or put a vent behind it...
see if it does any help
if soo set it in a cool place
