Problem when rading eny disks

you need to replace the laser assembly in the drawer laser is going out

The dvd drive needs a new laser. Dont swap in another 360 dvd drive as it wont play games. it will need the drive key flashed to another drive to work.

Lasers are around 10-15 on ebay.

Insert a blank diskette into the floppy drive. Click start click on computer you should see all of you drives.

Right-click on Drive A. You will see the option to format the drive.

Click on Format. Depending on your operating system, you will see an option that reads either "Create a system disk" or "Create a MS Dos system disk." Click the box next to this option.

Click the "Start" button to begin formatting the disk.
When completed, you will have a bootable floppy disk.

For CD Rom or DVD disks

Open the software that you use to burn or write files to the CD-rom or DVD drive.

Click on "Make a Data CD or DVD." Insert a blank CD-R or DVD-R disk into the drive.

Look for the option to "Make this disk bootable." You may have to scroll over the various icons displayed to find this option. Click on the option.

Burn the CD or DVD as usual. Once completed, this disk can be used to boot your computer.

Observe the computers disk drivers to ascertain whether the computer is CD rom compartible that may be least compartible to DVd rom disk media. Usually the disk insertion compartment should provide indication logos visible to the user about the compartibilty to media formats. When you get no disk error, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others.

In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only CD, DVD or Blue ray, or for example only DVD-R and not +R , or only to read and not to write and so on. After more prolonged usage , often the unit goes losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD or Blue ray lens cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the drive , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD lens, or the whole drive unit.

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)

you have a faulty disk inserted in the drive. Restart the computer and continuously press eject while the pc is booting, it should eject then.

mine does the same.the display flashes "prog" and --:-- on cd's,dvd's and even the cleaning disk it almost sounds like it isn't getting enough power to spin the disk.

it normally means that whatever format your dvd was burned with probably had an error when you were burning did you try to work it your computer , it could mean there is a problem with a disk, or that the laser lens needs to be cleaned
