Acer travelmate 4050 keyboard prints wrong keys

Has anyone spilled any liquid onto the keyboard?
This is a common indicator as to why the keyboard gives wrong character inputs.
If this is the problem, the keyboard will need replacing

If this is not the case try pressing the FN and NUMlock keys together

is the blue tooth mode running you can check this by going to your start menu and look for a folder named acer or acer tools or bluetooth and see if its running also ctrl alt del at teh same time bring up task manager and look for something called bluesolil (sp) .exe running.if its not on or there is no option you need to re install your blu tooth drivers from acers website. some of there travel mates DO NOT contain blu tooth tho

Check that you have TCP/IP enabled in your network settings

It's either a Shift+ the key with the character you want to print or an FN(The Fn Key)+ the key that has the character you want to print. This assumes your drivers for that keyboard are actually loaded in the OS you are using and the OS recognizes the special keys. These are not normal keys.

either "shift" key will will activate the ones that are the same colors. the " f " OR " function " key activates the keys in blue (printed on the front of the keys)

The 8042 keyboard controller has been integrated into one chip with other I/O functions so I doubt you can replace it as a single IC and I'm afraid that is what has failed. It is an extremely rare failure but I guess it has to happen some time. The keyboard is kind of a polled matrix so it only takes the failure of a single line to bollix things up.
I think what you are talking about here is a motherboard exchange or repair.  

Replace the keyboard easily available for cheap. Get full manual at Acer website but replacement is easy, be careful of the clips holding the connection to the motherboard, don't remove just slide upward to release..

it could be the sensors are damaged under the keys, but hopefully its just the driver. Right click on my computer icon and click properties and then the hardware tab, then device manager and look down the list for keyboard. Click the + sign and then right click on your keyboard under that and select uninstal. Restart the notebook and it will reinstall itself and hopfully work as it should do, if not then the keyboard itself is damaged in some way.
