Microwave burn smell how to remove

I put a therapeutic pain wrap as prescribed to heat in the microwave oven, but it scorched the fabric anyway and caused a terrible burned odor. I have tried cleaning it with vinegar water, and then put a mixture of baking soda and water in there and let it boil. Any other solutions?

Put an ozone generator inside for 5-10min. Unplug the microwave, then run the ozone generator for 5-10min. IF that does not work you may need to start replacing plastic bits inside.

Do not put any metallic objects or substances in side the oven . It will produce arcing inside the oven. Take care in future.

SOURCE: reheated fish in my microwave.

Smelly fish can be a bit disastrous to the kitchen and can sometimes put you of cooking completely.
To get rid of the smell might be a bit time consuming but a couple of things could be efficient. First you leave the oven open for about a day then you could get some bananas and pineapples and put then inside the oven for about another day and also put in a block of charcoal. Although you could also try to bake some cake in it. You could try all the above options together. Sorry for the stench.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

We recently had a rag burnt in the microwave. The smell is awful. Is it safe to keep on using the microwave?

Microwaving cloth is not a good idea. Rather than drying out the moisture (or for whatever reason it was put in the oven), microwaving it will just make the water really, really hot! You could easily burn yourself trying to handle the item. The heat could also damage the fabric itself or even ignite it....which it looks like happened.

The microwave oven should be safe to use but you need to remove the odor.

A couple of ways to try to get rid of the burnt odor:
Fill a microwavable bowl with 1/2 cup water and 1 tablespoon white vinegar.
  1. Microwave it for 4-5 minutes and leave it with the door shut for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Steam will loosen smell-causing detritus stuck to the walls. ...
  3. After the waiting period, remove the bowl and wipe the inside of the microwave down with a paper towel.
A different way is put two tablespoons of baking soda in a microwave safe bowl and add a cup of water on top of that. Then put the bowl in the microwave for three minutes. The baking soda will kill the funky smells and the water will start to steam clean the spots and stains.
Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Is this oven still under warranty? If so, take advantage. If not, remove the power plug and the case. Short out, with a screwdriver, the large can-shaped capacitor with two terminals sticking out. Check the wiring and circuit board for signs of burning. If everything looks ok, remove the thin sheet metal wave guide that sits above or beside the microwave energy port into the cooking cavity. Under the sheet metal, there is a metal fan-like device called a 'stirrer' that has a plastic bearing. Remove this stirrer and smell the bearing. If it smells like the burning wire smell, replace the stirrer. You can buy it through 'Sears Parts' online.

Ge spacemaker microwave oven sounds like it is working but is not heating. It also smells like hot wires.

may need an interlock switch, located behind control panel. For otr models, remove the grille and you will find a screw that holds the panel on, remove it and lift up on the panel before pulling out to keep from breaking tabs, switches will be to your left behind the door. for counter models, the case needs to be removed. If there is no sign of scorching at the switches, you may need a magnetron.
