Dishwasher stops during cycle. Have to push on door to start again.

When I close the dishwasher door, the dishwasher comes on sometimes, but not always. If it does come on, it will usually stop itself during the cycle. If I push on the door it will start again. I have been using a broomhandle to keep the dishwasher going by pushing on the door.

Asko d3251 randomly stopping during cycle.

The thing that immediately comes to mind is a faulty door switch or latch. The door switch can be replaced and you might be ok. But the latch would be more tricky to check. Sometimes if dishwasher is not level or if the door springs are misalinged the door tends to slip and release the latch due to pressure. It works when you open and shut. But not sure about the night time cycle. That sounds a bit creepy if it starts again by itself. Why not put a tape around the door and then start. That will help eliminate the obvious ones. The other thing that exends dishwasher cycle time is the lack of adequate water temperature. Could be heater or thermostat or both.
You should be able to stroll through the parts by selecting categories on this site.

Stops mid cycle and resumes after I push on the door handle

Rather than a problem with the latch sensor it just might be that something is preventing the door from fully closing properly. Check that there are no obstructions stuck on the door/frame seals and that the seals are in good order. Perished seals can prevent the door from closing evenly and this may cause the problems you are experiencing. Also check that the door itself is not warped or out of alignment, this will also cause such problems.

Asko 1385: 13 year old dishwasher stops during cycle. If you push on the middle of the door it starts again. It is like the latch is not working properly but by all appearances the latch works fine....

when you latch the door it closes the circuit.
you may have to open the casing of the door to access the switch. it may be stuck or defective.

Dishwasher problem

First: this is what Whirlpool says!!
And after this at the bottom Is what the repair manual says when I looked it up for you!

Dishwasher is not operating properly
1.Dishwasher does not run or stops during a cycle
Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing? Opening the door or
interrupting the power stopped the cycle. Close the door and
press START/RESUME.
2.Does the Start/Resume indicator flash 3 times when you
press START/RESUME? The dishwasher is waiting for you to
open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door,
then press START/RESUME.
3.Is the door closed tightly and latched?
(NOTE: On models with a dual-digit display, the control
displays “- -” during a cycle if it believes the door is not
latched.)
4.Is the right cycle selected? Refer to the “Cycle Selection
Charts.”
5.Is there power to the dishwasher? Has a household fuse
blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped?
6.Has the motor stopped due to an overload? The motor
automatically resets itself within a few minutes. If it does not
restart, call for service.
7.Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
It is normal for certain cycles to repeatedly pause for several
seconds during the main wash.
___________________________________________________________

BUT, the repair manual says this

Faulty Pump and Motor Assembly Some models that will not wash or drain often have a faulty Pump and Motor Assembly. If the motor is receiving power from the timer and it is not operating that is the case.
Temporary Work-around:
With the power turned off to the unit, sometimes it is possible to manually rotate the cooling fan on the motor assembly. In certain situations where the dishwasher has set idle for a period of time, this may free the bearings enough that the unit will begin to operate. Where this works as a short term solution in some cases, it is often a sign of things to come. The frequency of the motor seizing will increase until it will simply no longer work.

I think this is a hands job that needs service and hands on attention!
I hope it's not the motor or pump!

How old is the machine?
If they tell you it is an expensive motor then you need to know this!!!!

Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help!

If the dishwasher will not fill

Check the overfill protection float that is able to move up and down
freely? Press down to release.

Let me know if any of these procedures helped you?

Can't cancel cycle without it starting

you have a few choices if the factory says that this is normal. try shutting off the breaker or unplugging the dishwasher. we use plugs when we install them to make removal easier. with the power down for a few moments, it may reset itself if its a solid state board. otherwise, let it run and then start it over again to do what you intended. its not a big problem if that is what you are stuck with for functionality. it is not a common need to reset, i would expect. check the manual too, you may need to hold the reset button for a few seconds or more.
good luck

Dishwasher sticking half way through cycle

Crawlmom, it sounds like your door latch assy. and switches are not making properly sometime during the wash. Therefore the two dashes. You want to make sure that the dishwasher is level and securely mounted. Another thing is, on this model, if a key pad is stuck, the dishwasher will stop and flash the stuck key. Im not sure where the red light is coming from. Without being there, I'm leaning on the door switch assy. Check this out first and post back. Catriver.
