HP Deskjet F4280 scanning problem

Am unable to get HP Solutions Center to open. The printer works fine as printer & copier, but am unable to scan.
When launching HP Solution Center, a small grey screeen opens, followed by this error message: "No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now." when I click "OK", it does in fact close.
HP was unable to help me after 90 minutes on chat session. Ugh!

SOURCE: HP Deskjet F4280 Ink Level

Hi,
when you refill the cardtridge, you can not reset the ink level... because refilling doesn't show the ink levels.. you no need to worry. if ink is there in the carttridge it will print...
Shouldn't worry about it. They are only a rough guide. The only time to worry about it is when the printer stops working and it has told you it's run out of ink! Thank you.......

SOURCE: HP Deskjet 4280 scanner problem

Possible causes

  • The system resources are too low to facilitate scanning.
  • The USB controller is sharing an Interrupt Request (IRQ) with another device.
  • There are multiple entries (ghost entries) of the scanner in the Device Manager.
Step 1: Open the System Information tool Windows 98, Me, and 2000 Pro Click Start , Programs , Accessories , System Tools , and then System Information . The Microsoft(R) System Information window opens. Microsoft® Windows XP Click Start , Help and Support , Tools , My Computer information , Advanced System Information ,and then Detailed System Information (msinfo32.exe) . The Microsoft System Information window opens. Step 2: Verify the available system resources If the system resources available are below 50%, the scanner may have difficulty transferring the scanned image to the computer and will stop in the middle of a scan.
NOTE: Windows XP does not give system resource information in the System information window. Skip to Step 3 if using Windows XP.
  1. Select the System Information linein the left side of the System Information window.
  2. In the right side of the System Information window, verify that System Resources are 50 percent or above.
  3. If the System Resources are lower than 50 percent, increase system resources .
Step 3: Check for IRQ sharing between USB and other devices The USB controller normally shares an IRQ with the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering device. While this device does not cause any conflicts, other devices on the same IRQ may cause a conflict.
  1. With the System Information tool open, click the plus ( + ) next to Hardware , then IRQ’s . In the screen to the right, information about will appear showing which IRQ a device is using.
  2. Verify the USB controller is on an IRQ with nothing else sharing it except the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering. Examples of USB controllers are listed below:
    • Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
    • Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
    • Intel 82801 BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller
  3. If the USB controller is sharing an IRQ with another device besides the IRQ Holder for PCI Steering, contact the computer manufacturer for assistance in moving it to another IRQ.

SOURCE: Paper stuck in carriage of HP Deskjet F4280

Hello there
You may not see a paper jam.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

What is the process to save a document or picture scanned with my HP Deskjet F4280? I am using Microsoft Windows 7. I am unable to install any HP software for this printer/scanner while using Windows 7.

There is no need to install any software for scanning from Windows 7 computer.

It's very easy

On computer click "Start" (windows icon)
click "All Programs"
click "Windows Fax and Scan"
click "Scan" and complete the scan as per on-screen instructions there

Make sure printer is turned on and connected to computer through usb cable properly.

HP F4280 only scans part of image. How can I get it to scan a whole A4 sheet?

I had the same problem with my HP F4280. Go into control panel, click on devices and printers, then click on the HP F4280. An option to scan will come up, including a preview option so you can select the area of the scan. It'll work fine if you do it this way instead of pressing the scan button.

Then make a shortcut to the printer on your desktop so the next time you want to scan you just click on the shortcut

How to scan editable text of document.

Put the CD in the computer
Select "Add more Software"
Check if you have any OCR option
If you have one Install it
Then Try to scan from HP Solution center and select Scan Document
You will be able to Scan to Editable text

Other wise you can purchase a Software RED I.R.I.S.
and then you can directly Scan from the software to editable text.

My all in one printer/scanner is not scanning. prints and copies fine, but does not scan

Form your issue that you are able to print and copy but unable to scan it is very clear that it is a software issue. Copy and scan fuctions work this way.

Copy - completely related to hardware.
Scan - related to software

uninstall and reinstall the full version software from Hp for the operation system of your computer.

HP Deskjet F4280 all-in-one - when I preview a scan in "scanners and cameras" it previews fine but when I press the button to scan, the on/off light just blinks rapidly at me and nothing happens.

If you have installed your printer correctly, is your Page aligned, if not try page alignment by loading A4 paper into the tray and adjust the tray to fit with your paper, then restart your printer.

Note that you do not need the photo smart essential to perform your scanning, all you need is to press the scan button and the scanning page automatically open on your PC
