Yamaha rx 661 how to get the osd to display?

I have tried the component out, s-video out, and composite out to no avail. When I click on "Display" on the remote nothing happens. Any ideas. My ultimate issue is trying to hook up a subwoofer, but according to the owner's manual, I need to go thru the MANUAL SET UP menu, which is accessed thru OSD.

SOURCE: yamaha RX-V530 no OSD

There is no OSD on this unit. The Monitor Outputs are there in case you run video inputs to the receiver, which you don't.

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V730 OSD problem

I assume you have a component connected source coming into the Yamaha to give it sync and you are component connected out to the monitor. If you have no input you won't have osd on component only without a signal to sync lock.

It is always possible that the 730 doesn't actually have component overlay for osd, just its a 2in 1 out switched affair. Hence the manual says you also need the composite/ Svid as well...They certainly don't use both at the same time. Newer units have full up + down video conversion but at this age it won't have.

SOURCE: I'm trying to get the

Hi there,

I don't think you've set this up correctly. You need to connect to the TV using COMPONENT and S-VIDEO - or COMPONENT and COMPOSITE. You appear to be using COMPOSITE and S-VIDEO, which isn't one of the combinations specified.

After doing this you also need to set your TV to the correct video input mode for the receiver:

I really need to know the brand and model of your TV to tell you how to do this correctly. However, you should look for a button on your TV remote labelled INPUT or SOURCE and press this repeatedly until COMPONENT (or "COMP") or S-VIDEO is displayed. The correct input depends on which connection you are using. If you get a list of INPUTS on your TV screen the first time you press the input or source button, use the arrow keys to highlight COMPONENT or S-VIDEO then press the ENTER or OK button on the remote to select it.

After you've made the connections, the rest of what you are doing is correct - press AMP then the ON SCREEN / DISPLAY button to view the OSD on your TV screen.

Please make sure you have done all of the above and, if you're still having difficulty, please let me know the brand and model number of your TV. If it would help, I can also draw a diagram of the correct connections between the receiver and TV for you.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to me from within this page by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Regards,
BElectric.

I can't get the OSD display to appear on my monitor.

it's in the manual footenotes. osd will not work with an hdmi connection to monitor. it will work with s-video or component. just switch input when osd is desired.

How do I get the " OSD" to work!

Make sure that you are selecting the correct input on the TV for which input you are plugging the receiver into. Then press the OSD button on the receiver remote. If that doesn't work, try plugging the S video into a different video input, or use a different video input cable such as from the composite connection of the monitor out. Some reasons for having to do it this way is that some televisions may give priority to one input of identical type which is usually S video. For example if you are using the S video input on the front of the TV with a different device and then plug another S video cable to another input elsewhere on the TV, it may only display the picture through the S video on one input because it is using the same circuitry for both S video inputs and can't display picture from both of them simultaneously nor can you toggle between them even if the other device is not turned on. HOWEVER, there MAY be a way around this as well...try your picture-in-picture (PIP) and toggle to the PIP input that your receiver is plugged into. Still then if that doesn't provide you with the OSD of the receiver menu, then just change one of your S video inputs to a composite input.

I have yamaha rx-v465 receiver and yds-11 docking station. how can i get tv{through hdmi 1}to display what's on ipod.i have nano w/video camera{newest one]. is this possible

I think it is not possible, because RX-V465 does not have HDMI-video processing. It can only pass-thru the HDMI video to HDMI-out, but not alter the signal in any way.
If it should support TV output with YDS-11, it will work only via analog video out (s-video / composite / component).

Monitor problem

I don't see any OSD in the RX-V490 owner's manual. This unit only passes video through from a video source, like a VCR.

The Yamaha RX-V463 AV does not playsound from the blue ray player

"I am also having difficulties in try to display the yamaha set up menu on the tv."
According to the manual the display menu for TV will not work with HDMI hook up.
I also have a Panasonic HD TV and can't get TV sound through my Yamaha AVR on "TV Sound" mode.  Trying to use HDMI cable for this also.  Do I need a digital optical cable or do I not have something set right?
