A/c compressor fan doesn't turn on when ac kicks on. I give it a shove and turns for a few minutes and then stops turning. I had the fan replaced about a 1 1/2 - 2 years ago.
ok, just sat and watched the fan to determine how long it spun for. Turns out the compressor shuts off after about 2 minutes but the fan continues to spin, even after I shut the handler off.ok, just sat and watched the fan to determine how long it spun for. I would check the fuses first. After you confirm the fuses are good, I’d unplug the compressor and turn on the ac inside the car. With a test light or voltmeter, one of the wires should have positive voltage. Assuming the climate control unit inside the car is working correctly. If one has power when u switch it on inside and then when U turn it off the wire that had power doesn’t anymore then check to make sure the other wire is grounded. If it is the compressor is bad. Now if you don’t have enough Freon in the car it won’t kick on. The low pressure switch will prevent it from kicking on. Does your fans kick on when you turn on the ac inside? You can take and apply power to the compressor with a jumper wire from the positive terminal On the battery and hook it to the positive wire on the compressor. If the compressor kicks on it’s good and it’s not the compressor.
Does the Compressor kick in when you turn on the AC? If it doesn't, the AC compressor is governed by the ECU. My AC went out along with an acceleration problem. hard starting, and unburnt fuel. I had my ECU rebuilt, and upon installation of the rebuilt unit, all worked perfectly again, including the AC.
Your bigger problem is the compressor not kicking in. The cooling fan is not coming on because there is not enough high side pressure to turn the fan on.
I would start by checking power to the compressor, fuses and relays would be inspect. Check to make sure there is the proper charge of refridegerant in the system.
When this happens, remove filter at ceiling assy and see if there is frost on evaporator coils/fins. That would cause it to kick out until frost is gone, then kick back in. Get back to me, and I'll give you instructions on what may be causing it.
If blower not working, and yoou hear a slight "Hum" with fan only on, try this. With power off to AC. Go up on roof, and slide a stick through opening on side near rear, and try to get to fan blades at rear of unit. try to spin the blades a few times, even if it only goes a little at a time. Unless you want to take all those screws out & remove cover to get at it better, but watch for wasps under there. Give fan a couple of full rotations, then have someone turn it on to fan only & see what happens. If fan finally works, let it run for a few minutes on fan, then try cool & see if it all comes together again. Let me know.
If you have just installed this unit in your window for the
season, you may want to wait a day or so, for everything in the unit to
settle, and try again. You make have shaken it up a bit too much. If not.....sounds to me like it is kicking out on high head pressure. This happens when refrigerant gets too low, or there is air in the refrigerant system. There is nothing you can do to solve this problem, except take it to a repair shop. If I am correct what happens is you turn the unit on, and the fan and compressor start simultaneously, then after a few seconds (maybe up to a minute) the compressor kicks off, and the air gets warm, then the compressor kicks on for a few seconds, and we repeat. This is actually a safety mechanism for the compressor motor so it does not run without refrigerant. (That would destroy the pump.)
