My screen just went very dark, How do I fix this

What computer? Laptop or desktop? What screen? Built in laptop screen, or external monitor?

From your description, we are guessing that the screen is still on and operating, but the light level is very low. This is different from the monitor not running at all.

First check your brightness controls, either on your keyboard or through your operating software to see if it was accidentally turned down.

For hardware problems, the most common reason for a screen to suddenly go dark is a failure of the backlight, the cable to the backlight, or the inverter / driver circuit that powers the backlight. Can you still see the operating system running on the screen even if it is dark? If it is super dark, you can try shining a flashlight on the screen to see if you can see normal screen activity. If the screen is active, that means that the video circuit is running, and the problem is in the backlight circuitry.

In laptops, this can be a result of the ribbon cable that goes through the hinge of the machine becoming unplugged, or broken.

My fn key and home for making screen light bright isnt working can any one tell me is there any other way to make my screen light high???please help its so dark

You should try to determine why your Fn keys are not working... just to make certain, the Fn+Home key will increase brightness and Fn+End will decrease.

You can try the blue IBM-Access Key. In the Configure tab, you can manage the display settings.

If you cannot see your display because it is too dark, try attaching an external monitor via the vga connector.

I have a dell inspiron laptop, and a dell monitor hooked up to it, i turn on the monitor and it is very bright for about half a second then it becomes very dark, so dark that it looks like it turned off,...

Does the fault appear on the laptop screen aswell? It appears by your description that the fault is only on the external monitor. If the screen comes on for a moment and then goes blank as described, then this appears to be an invertor fault. It is very common among laptop and tft screens and requires the invertor inside the panel to be replaced / repaired. Simply plug the screen into another computer to confirm.

The screen on my HP Pavilion dv 1000 is too dark. The probem extends 2/3's from the left and almost 1/4 of the screen from the left. It's becoming so bad I barely can read the screen. Thre problem seems to...

If turning up the brightness hasn't helped then the lcd is likely going to fail soon.

option 1: hook it up to an external monitor.
option 2: Look for a replacement lcd on e-bay
option 3: Get a new laptop

HP will charge a lot for the display if they even still stock it.

Hope this helps.

Acer laptop has developed a fully dark screen

I am assuming that you have tried switching from external monitor output and local monitor. There should be a hot key on the keyboard to switch it. Also, try looking to make sure the driver for the display is up to date. I f it was update recently try rolling the driver back. If you need help with doing any of this post a comment. Hope this has helped some.

Monitor is very dark

I have to assume you have tried through existing means to change brightness and contrast.
These are generally provided for the user.

LCD screens are backlit via a fluorescent lamp. This is a high voltage device so the problem could come from either a failing lamp or the inverter circuit that drives it.

Access to the lamp varies greatly and to even check it may well be a job for a technician.
