I have a Kenmore 400 series electric dryer, about two years old. The element seems to stay at it's highest temperature no matter which cycle I choose, timed dry, auto dry, (even air dry/tumble) which shouldn't have any heat at all.
Also, when I select a drying cycle, (and before I press start) I can hear a humming sound and the drum gets very hot inside.
Could this be a relay problem?
Thanks in advance.
I replaced the old ducting and made sure there were no obstructions. Model Number: 110.C67492600I replaced the old ducting and made sure there were no obstructions.

Check the dryer vent all the way to the outside for blockage. Give model number to check for relay. You should not have any heat on air dry.Check the dryer vent all the way to the outside for blockage. Give model number to check for relay. You should not have any heat on air dry.

What was your solution? I was thinking one or more of the multiple coils in the element could be burned out but not the entire thing I've see that happen before. Glad you got it fixed!
It normally takes about 45 minutes for a dryer to dry a full load. If your dryer is taking more than an hour, check these. Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician. our dryer's heating element may be partially burned out. If it is, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three or four times as long to dry the clothes. If the element is partially burned out, replace it.
there are 2 thin coil wires that have current flowing threw it. it gets red hot and provides the heat to dry clothing, if one of these wires brake your dryer wont get so hot. very common its made cheaper all the time so it wont last.
probably a stuck dryer element relay! unplug it and don't use it again until you get it fixed! or replace it! not worth your life to keep using it! electric dryers are cheaper to replace than gas dryers! don't know how old it is, but if still under warranty, have kenmore fix or replace it! don't use it again!! good luck! stay safe!!
Very common problem. You need to call a duct cleaning company and tell them to clean your dryer vent. Rule-of-thumb: dryer vents should be cleaned every couple of years to prevent them from being clogged with lint and causing lint fires. This is definitely your problem. Good luck :)
p.s. one way to verify a clogged vent is to go outside where the vent exits the house and feel the air-flow. should have adequate air-flow.
if you got the meter to give you any reading the heater is good,so it must be the heaster box fuse, this fuse control the heat,if it get to hot it pops,.let meknow-mike
