I have a bissell little green machine that won't spray the cleaning solution. It will **** and when my husband blew in the hose the water did bubble in the clean tank but when we try to get it to spray it won't do any thing but the brushes do go around.
We had the same problem. After dissassembling the whole machine we could not find a clog or any other obvious problem. The manual suggests priming the pump by putting the solution reservoir in and out a few times. This did not help much. What did work was to raise the unit up a few feet above the trigger while depressing the holding the spray trigger. (That is, use gravity to fill the tube.) After solution was flowing freely, we turned the machine on and it seems to spray fine again.

I might add that what worked for me was to take a small syringe and pump water into the sprayer port (after first removing the brush head). This filled the tube with liquid and served to prime the pump. This is the second one of these I've had that had issues with the pump staying primed.

The Pumps on these go bad after a couple of months. They rust and will
sometimes spray and other times not then eventually not work at all. If
your a handy man pull the top off it and remove the pump motor and
replace it yourself. The part number is 603-5029 you can put this number
in google shipping and get it to your door for about $15 and replace it
yourself or have a friend do it. Ebay has tons of them once again just
put in the part number and a list of them will come up.

Ok, I really feel silly because bought a new machine due to the sprayer not working. Well turns out that the tube in the hose was twisted so tight that water could not get through. Don't waste your time calling any 1-800 numbers! Those reps are a joke! But instead do what i did. Unscrew the plastic cover off the spray nozzle. Then pop off all pieces, and i mean all. You should have the black tube free and clear to grab and move around. Gently pull a bit of the tube to bring some out of the big green hose. As you do this, you should notice the tight kinks. Just unravel it and then the tube should slide back with ease. Test the sprayer then put back all the pieces. Boy, I am sooooo happy and a little dumb founded that I bought a new machine because my old one did the same thing. I had no water at all coming out and now it's like new! I think over time the tube twists, notice how the handle spins..... Well, good luck and I hope this made a difference to all!

This did the trick for me, too! After spending $10 buying a replacement pump motor on eBay, removing the old motor, and installing the new one, still no spray. Tried forcing hot water through the pipe with a plastic squeeze bottle, still nothing. Finally stumbled upon this article and that was my problem; the spray tube was twisted inside the hose. My machine is now spraying once again! Thanks, Beatrice, for posting the advice!
Ok..I got the screws out and after playing with it realized how to unassembled it.
Thank you for the info..mine wasn't twisted but I did run cleaning strength vinegar through the machine then read a suggestion to hold the hose well below the machine ( I put the cleaner on the counter and held the hose into a bucket on the floor)
It's spraying like new now!
This was a great tip, but, it was a little confusing when she said "Then pop off all pieces, and i mean all." Here's what I did. I removed the 2 screws holding the cover over the sprayer control button, like she did. I didn't pop any pieces off other than the actuator lever (over the spray control button) so I could access the silver clip, and then I squeezed the little silver (maybe rusty) clip holding the little black sprayer hose in place, and slide it away from the spray assembly, and down the little black hose, a bit. Then I pulled the little black hose off the assembly. Once you have the hose free, gently pull the hose out of the green suction hose, and you will see the kinks. Untwist, and just reverse the directions. A faster way, and I will try it next time this happens, would be to turn the suction nozzle assembly a couple turns clockwise, try the sprayer, if no spray, turn it back a couple of turns counter clockwise, and then keep turning a few more times in the same direction, and try the sprayer again. You may be able to untwist the hose inside without any disassembly. It's worth a try, just don't turn more than 2-3 times on the first try, or you might screw up the hose for good.

Great twist on the original "solution". I turned the nozzle clockwise while holding the hose 2-3 times with no improvement. I didn't feel any resistance, so I turned it three more times. It sprays a strong stream - just like new! Thanks!

Thank you Beatrice, solved my problem as well! Anyone reading this, I suggest you try that solution first. Took me about 5 minutes to unscrew the piece off the end of the hose, pull the black tubing out and seeing it unkink and then put back together.

As a last resort, but it worked for me today right before I took my machine to the curb...drain cleaner ?? This was Home Sense drain cleaner from Kroger. I poured in about 1/2 cup and then immediately hit the sprayer and it came out. I then ran several tanks full of hot water through it, one with a quarter cup vinegar. I had to pour drain cleaner into the opening above the sprayer nozzle, too, more than once, and then rinse rinse rinse but I cleaned all the upholstery in my daughter's Malibu without a glitch. Don't recommend before trying all the above, but it worked for me.
How I fixed it: I blew thru the spray part until the water in the solution tank bubbled. Then I "primed" it by placing the machine on the table and lowering the hose, then pressing the spray button. At first it did not spray so I pressed the spray button and blew thru the part again. I then unpressed the spray button, then pressed it again and it worked!
Bissell does not stand by their products: I concur with most people on this post, do not expect any help from Bissell. Before I did any of this I called Bissell. They kept me on the phone for over 40 minutes going thru some "troubleshooting" which did not work. Then Laina told me to take it to a "repair center" (Vaccuum Zone in Woodbridge VA) for warranty repairs an hour away. When I get there Saturday, the repair place tells me he will get to it on Friday. Then they call me Monday to tell me it is not under warranty and it would be around $40 or more to fix. I told him Bissell said they would repair under warranty and he said according to the serial number a year had passed. I asked him if they knew what the issue was and he said he would not open it until he got paid. I asked him how he knew it would be $40 and he said that was the minimum they charge. He said Bissell would pay him more than I would. Vaccuum Zone in Woodbridge VA was trying to rip me off. So I drove an hour to pick it up. I called Bissell for help and they refused any assistance beyond "warranty" period. I will NEVER buy any Bissell products again. Customer service is horrible and they don't stand by their products. I am glad I found this site to give me some ideas on what to do. People helping people is awesome!!!!

Ive had my Green Machine for over 10 years. Only probs so far: I broke the vacuum end and replaced it and the kinked hose listed above.

Going to have to replace the pump. Unacceptable that these machines only last a couple years or so, for the price. Everything is made so cheaply these days. Shameful.
I don't know, I see it as normal wear and tear. We have to invest money in our cars for oil changes and repairs when they need them. It stands to reason that home appliances need servicing, too, after extended use.
I don't see it as normal wear and tear Joe! When you pay over $100 for a product you use only occasionally... it should last more than just a few years. I've had SHARK brand products last for many years, and the one time I had a problem, I shipped it back and they replaced it with a new one without all the hassle and BS Bissell gives you.
