I've just been struck down with this too on my newly purchased MM-E460D. I think I've worked it out, its just a poor description and manual. iPod mode" means choose the music off the iPod via a connected TV whereas "Remote iPod" is choose the music off the iPod via the Samsung remote and also directly from the iPod interface. I've been there for days trying to get "iPod mode" to work via the iPod interface.
Did the songs you're trying to play work previously/is it all music on the ipod?
I believe if you plug the ipod into your computer and hit the restore button in iTunes it wipes everything and resets the factory settings. Seeing as jailbreaking it technically voids the warranty, there's no "official" way of fixing it - but this has worked for me in the past.
It could also be a problem with your headphones or the headphone jack. Before wiping it, I'd test it with some different headphones to see if that solves your problem. You can also try a reset on the iPod itself by pressing the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. This doesn't erase anything, but it does reset the device.
Since there are so many things it could be, you may want to try the less severe ones first, then back up your music and the like before doing the iTunes factory reset - then bring it in to Apple to let them know that you can't play music.
This is common among the 30gb Video iPods. If you play your iPod on a Dock, such as a iHome or other speaker device, for some reason, they like to take the Mainboard out. Normally, if it's a headphone jack, the problem will start with sound only playing on one side of the Headphones.
As a start, you can replace the headphone jack and see if it corrects your problem. If not, you will need to replace the mainboard in your iPod.
i too had the same prob... try convertin those songs tat are not copied to ur ipod... try convertin them to wav or ipod to play in ur ipod,,, try manually syncin these songs,..it also happens if the audio is in a very bad quality..
You could try resetting the iPod, I don't remember off hand which combination of buttons you have to press but there will be help for this on Apple's website...
