It is not uncommon for vista to take an inordinate amount of time to open the briefcase, but there are some steps you can take to ensure the process is smoother. Please have a look at this link. maybe this one too.
You could try run as with UAC turned off, and see if that's the issue. link here. and here. and the definitive scope here. You may just not have permission.
Have you tried creating a briefcase from within vista and moving it to the xp system instead?
Are you otherwise able to access data on the flash drive? If not, look for driver updates from the manufacturer to make it compatible with vista.
Finally, have a look at the event viewer &/or device manager and make sure there are no error codes associated with the drive that are preventing access, or see what error id is associated with the explorer hang. If you get a code, report back and we'll be happy to look into it.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

How do i transport the address book from old computer windows xp to new computer vista

The easiest way would be to identify the location and the file your Dymo printer uses to store its address. Copy the File to a USB memory stick, copy the File on the USB stick to your your new computer, and when you start up your Dymo printing utility open the copied file as your default address library.
The problem you may run into can be caused by different versions of the Dymo printing utility. You may be forced (using the Dymo printing utility) to export the address book on the XP computer and then import the address book on the Vista computer. The picture below outlines this procedure using Dymo printing utility v.8

Also, if you have created any custom label designs you will want to transfer them as well

Recently installed Corel WordPerfect Office X3 on a replacement computer running Vista Home Premium. At first we were unable to save any files, now it has progressed to the point where we can no longer...

go to the corel support site and Windows and look for software updates that deal with this issue, most likely there are patches to correct this, use Corel support 1st.

Unable to install XP in CQ60-104tu compaq Presario

You may find that if you insert a blank CD instead of DVD you have more luck (the image you have created is a CD image not a DVD image). Another tip is that you should not copy the ISO image to CD but using Nero burn image to disk. Let me know if you need more help.

I purchased Compaq Presario CQ40 Notebook / laptop and installed both XP + Vista operating systems. I purchased Idea Net Setter data card for internet facility (USB STICK-MODEL-EG1626- EDGE/GPRS/GSM AIR...

Your computer may simply be unable to run 2 operating systems. On the odd occasion the main OS usually the newest one in this case vista is running in the background and interfering with kernel operations even if you have selected "Previous version of windows" the 1 and only solution i know of is to not only re-format XP but Vista also.

the website above MIGHT be able to find driver needed but i dont think it is a driver problem.
This may be the only way- do this first

Problem with My Briefcase in Windows Vista

Hello, I thought Vista was retired some time ago through being a little unreliable. Now as far as Windows XP even though it was an old favorite there is no comparison in what it did and Windows 10, I have both a Surface Pro 4 tablet computer and a desktop both have Windows 10. I do wonder why people stay with even XP as it is not supported by Microsoft now and that in itself is a great risk. Thanks.

Canon BJC 2000 question-1284 to usb

The software package just doesn't work well with older peripherals that use legacy parallel or serial com ports. Too many sloppy layers.

THE BEST WAY to add an LPT printer port to your laptop is to use a PCMCIA to Parallel adapter card.
The PC Card slot provides access to the laptop's data bus, and the PC Card adapter easily sets up as a native LPT port within almost any OS.

There is no delay, or connection problems as I've seen in so many complaints about USB to Parallel or Legacy Serial adapters. Printing is Instant.

PCMCIA is a mature standard, and works seamlessly with XP and Vista, and almost any other OS.

PARALLEL is the old standard fast data protocol. IEEE 1284 ECP mode up to 1.5 Mbps.
The BJC-80 and the BJC-85 have the same print speed. The BJC-85 just added USB.

INFRARED is ver 1.0 on the BJC-80, and printing is a bit slower at 115.2 kbps. Even the BJC-85 with its higher IRDA transfer rating and a laptop's built-in IR port, the XP print spooler has problems with it, and can hang if printing more than one page, and especially with more than one document. It will not scan.

I use IR for printing single pages only with either the BJC-80 or BJC-85.
USB to IRDA adapters work fine, and are less expensive $5-6 than
PCMCIA to Parallel adapters, $20-25.

I have tested and used several PCMCIA adapters from different manufacturers, and they all work perfectly as a hot-pluggable, instant LPT and/or Legacy Serial port for my laptops.
TIPS:
After installing the PC Card driver, check Device Manager for the LPT port number.
Install the printer manually from the list of printers, and select the proper LPT port.
Most laptops have two PCMCIA slots. If you change slots, the adapter card driver may reinstall, and assign the next available LPT port, LPT2.

To scan with the BJC-80, you must have an LPT port.
The PC Card adapter also allows the use of the IS-12 scanner cartridge within XP or Vista.
Within Vista, set the Canon ISScan software to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, to allow use of the TWAIN driver.
