Transfer from Widescreen camcorder through S video results in Full Screen instead of Widescreen

I am transfering Home movies from a Canon Optura 50 camcorder to a Panasonic DMR-ES10 DVD Recorder. Material is recorded in Widescreen. The Optura manual states that Widescreen recordings automatically playback in widescreen. I am using S video. No matter what I try, the DVD ends up Full screen instead of widescreen. Steve

As it turns out, Widescreen is a function only available when using RAM discs.

Remove tape from dead camcorder?

I think the battery failed, I would replace the battery. You can buy the battery by number (battery info is printed on the battery) on eBay.

Getting footage from a cassette onto a mac

Sorry but the only way to transfer the tape is to be able to play it in a compatible camcorder or player. Then use one of the analog to digital converters "available on the internet" to transfer it to a PC.
Best bet is to ask some friends if they have an old camcorder that will be able to play that video cassette for you.
Sidenote: If the cassette is fairly new it might already be recorded in digital format, in which case you only need a compatible camcorder or player and a USB or Firewire cable to import it into your Mac

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote if the answers you seek are helpful.

How do I download movie from my canon zr90 mini DV camcorder to my computer?

Transfer images effortlessly
The ZR90 expands video possibilities with a built-in slot for an SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card or a MultiMediaCard, in addition to the MiniDV cassette. That means you can easily transfer digital photos to your PC straight from the camcorder using the supplied USB cable or IEEE1394.
DV Terminal
The IEEE1394-compliant DV terminal also lets you connect the ZR90 to a DV-compatible computer or another Canon DV camcorder. That means you can easily transfer your digital movies to your computer's hard disk, edit your scenes, and then use them to create high impact Web sites, video e-mail, interactive CDs and DVDs, or a personal video album.

Canon Optura 40 playback - only get blue screen - no image, no sound

Try a cleaning tape. Buy a good quality cleaning tape (Panasonic makes one) and remember: cleaning tapes are abrasive so don't overuse it! Overuse can result in the need to replace the rotating drum assy in the camcorder. I'll bet a cleaning tape takes care of your problem.

Video transfer from Canon Optura 10 to Apple iMac

It should work well with Apple iMovie that came with your mac. There is a new version (imovie 09) that is said to be a major improvement over imovie 08 (the version that likely came with your computer). It is part of the iLife suite of multimedia Apple software. Available for $79 from the apple store. Here's a link to the store page. Buy now

Canon Optura Pi Mini DV Camcorder

you can use software to capture it on your computer and burn a DVD, or there are services that will do it for you for a reasonable price. Windows Movie maker will do it if you can load it on your computer. If you are not familiar with the technology then just use one of the services. Most large cities have them or you can us an online service.

Audio Quality

It's possible that the hard disks are in a non-DMA mode. Microsoft admits that there is a problem and a quick fix is to set the drives to PIO, OK it then go back in and set them to DMA. Best of luck,
