SOURCE: motor stalls when driving then starts and stalls right away.
Replace the distributor's magnetic pickup located inside the distributor surrounding the distributor shaft, the only other thing thankfully on this ignition system if memory serves me on the f 150 straight six 300 cu inch is the dura spark ignition control box, of course do the obvious tune up parts replacement dist.cap rotor, plug , sparkplugs before spending the $40.00 - $50.00 bucks on the dist.. pick up, you may have a weak a fuel pump check for adequate fuel pressure at carb 7 - 10 lbs.
SOURCE: engine stalls at stop lights and stop signs
check the fuel regulator, while running unplug the red vacumn hose and if gas squirts out the hole, then it is bad,if not then possibly plugged catalytic converters, drive it on the highway if you can, and stop and look underneath at it and if it looks red, then replace them.Check to see if its overheating, usually a really hot hood tells the story.
SOURCE: MY F250 POWER STROKE QUITE RUNNING IT WONT START
The 7.3 power stroke is not tha bad sheesh its actually pretty simple ok let me ask some questions here ok lets start simple when cranking does the needle on the tach move to approx. 5-600 ? if not more than likely its a cam sensor in which case there is actually a recall from ford they will fix it free.... yes I said free :) if not my second guess would be the Idm they were notorious for getting moisture in them btw IDM stands for injector driver module and you can find a good reman unit online for 200 "use google" if you have a friend with a high end scanner hook up and watch engine rpm there and also do a "buzz test" no buzz = idm fail another easy thing to do is open the drain on the fuel filter bowl and turn the key on and crank for 1 sec is there fuel shooting out ? if there isnt check fuel pump well that about covers it good luck please let us know whats up :)
SOURCE: why does my 1987 ford f250 sputter when going up
when u are going up a hill this puts a load on the ignition system, this causes any marginal spark plug wires to short to the engine and cause a missfire, this is most likely what is wrong with the truck

It will be either the pick-up coil inside of the distributor is malfunctioning, the Dura-Spark Control Unit is faulty, or the wiring to and around the Dura-Spark Control Unit and running out to the engine is faulty. (I always find these wires on those year Ford trucks to be in very poor condition with a lot of missing wire insulation allowing the bare metal wires to touch each other or to short out on the body ground) The wires should be inspected very carefully and also be certain that you inspect inside of the wire looms for any damaged wires.
You might be able to remove the Dura-Spark Control Unit and have it tested for free at most auto part stores.
