hi geraldine.
fixya has nothing to do with bing, this is a fixya site.
but if you go to this link and scroll down the page it will show you how to get rid of it. how to delete bing Google Search
Microsoft has made it prgressively harder to install Google as the default search engine in a concerted effort to force the use of BING on IE8. Once only a single step, setting Google as the default search engine now can take as many as eight steps which is why I personally use Firefox or Chrome. If you're one of the few whose workplace still forces them to use IE, here's how to at least remove BING from being the default search, every time IE8 is opened.
Open Internet Explorer
Click on the triangle next to the magnifying glass located to the right of the search bar.
Select Find more providers
Select Google; often they hide it on the second page, but it's still there.
Click on the triangle next to the magnifying glass located to the right of the search bar.
Delete your entire search history by clicking "Delete All," and then clicking the "Delete All" button to confirm the deletion. The Google search history page also has a gear icon; click it, and then select "Settings" to view your history settings. To stop Google from saving your search activity, click "Turn Off."
on google search page go to yjr top RH tool bar and click on the 3 bars
go to settings and scroll around till you find bing and unclick it
It may be also in your programs and features in the control panel
If it is high light it and uninstall
Bing is a search web engine; there are many others like, google, yahoo, duckduckgo and such. What you need to do is set some other search web engine (as I had mentioned) as your default in the web browser (other than Bing)
To make Google your default search engine, in Chrome, click the three bars to the far right of the Chrome browser, click Settings, Set the programs you want to run as your Home Page, removing Bing, then click "Manage Search Engines", and get rid of the engines you don't want to keep by clicking the X when you hover over them, and click "Make default" on the one you prefer. Also remove Bing from "Programs and Features" within the Control Panel. Other browsers have a similar way to change search engine preferences: sometimes by an icon next to the Search box that lets you "Manage" them.
Sometimes when you download a program, or an update for a program, there will be a box/button to add Bing as your search engine, and maybe a toolbar too. In the future, always look at the different prompts that pop up and deselect the buttons for such extras.
Bing is the default search engine for Internet Explorer. If you need to keep Google search as your default, then go to Internet Explorer settings and make sure that Google has the word "default" beside it.
