Your answering machine may be set to answer only. Refer to manual to correct this. You need to set the machine to answer on whatever ring you choose. Turn off answering machine to receive calls until you rectify the issue.
Most machines let you press # or * key as soon as your recording starts playing. Then after you press the buttons it will give you instructions to follow to receive you messages.
It may be similar to the problem I had on wireless home phone with answering machine not taking
messages when had the answering machine set to 12 rings before
answering. Found the sim card (my wireless system) auto response would
answer first. Fixed it by reducing time to 6 rings and answering
machine now comes on first.
The message machine needs to be set to answer 1 ring before the fax is set to answer. When the phone rings the fax starts listening even when the answer machine picks up. If the fax hears fax tones it will receive the fax and if no tones the answer machine will take a message.
I erased the other messages on the answering machine and unplugged and replugged the main base.
I since have received a message and it was fine. Thank you for your time
What exactly happens when a fax should be coming through and it does not? Does the machine ring and fail to answer, or does it answer, possibly receive, and then not print? Which mode is the machine set for? Are there any error messages on the machine or other LCD message displayed?
Have you verified the telephone line is properly connected so that the machine is able to communicate? Make sure that the machine is able to use the telephone line by using the handset to make a phone call. If this fails, you will know to go through the phone troubleshooting problems, just as you would with any other phone issues.
If the phone line is functional, please reply with more detail re exactly what occurs when a fax should be coming through, e.g. does the fax machine answer the call or let it ring until answered manually? I believe that either there is an issue with the line, or there is an issue with the setup of the mode for receiving, but can not be more specific without more information.

Try setting the receive mode to FAX/ANS. If you want the fax not to pickup before a phone call comes in, you should set the number of fax rings to a higher number, like "5" for instance. Set the answering machine rings less and the fax higher. The machine will usually record a message first and then detect a fax tone.
