Cannot charge battery

I am trying to charge my casio lithiumion battery 3.7v NP-20 and I can't. The charger flashes a red light - but never turns green to complete charge. How can I tell if it's the charger or the battery that's defective. Thank you!

I would replace the charger 1st seeing as its the cheapest thing to do. if that doesnt solve the problem. return the charger to where ever you got it from and purchase a new battery.

Battery flashing when charging why?

If the red light is flashing after inserting a NP-20 battery in the Casio Lithium Charger BC11-L, it means that the battery will not take a charge. Normally when putting the batterry in the charger, the light will be a constant red. After charging is complete, the red light will go out. Battery is then fully charged and ready for use.

My Casio Exilim EX-S880 wont turn on. Battery is dead but the camera wont charge on the charger. The red charger light is flashing when then camera is placed on it. This red light used to stay on...

I found this while trying to solve my exact same problem.. It worked for me after about 7 times. Some other people on the site said it worked for them after 20 times. Good luck!

My NP 20 gave me the flashing red light of death and I got Casio to replace it. Then I had the same problem with my second NP 20 so I dug around for a way to fix it and I found the following advice on a site called FixYa. It worked instantly and I didn't risk ruining my battery.

I had the same problem as this.
what i did was...
i kept putting the battery on the charger then took it off as soon as the red light came on.
i did this about 6 times.
doing this puts a bit of charge in the battery each time before the charger starts to flash.
after the battery as got enough charge in it it can start to charge.
hope this helps.

When the battery is in the charger it flashes red & won't charge, have no idea what problem is! Have casio exilim lithium ion NP-20 battery & a casio exilim 7.2 megapixels camera. Can't turn camera...

I called casio and they told me that when you have a red flashing light on the charger it means the lithium battery is no longer any good. They offered to send me one free of charge. It's been several weeks and I have yet to receive it.

Casio exilim camera charger

I read that if you connect a 9V battery (+ to +, - to -) to the NP-20 for 10 seconds, it will jump start the battery and provide just enough charge for the battery charger to recognize the battery. The problem is that the NP-20 battery becomes so low that the charger will not charge it. I also read that you can use 2 D size batteries if you don't have a 9V battery.

Just make this connection to the NP-20 battery, not while in the charger! Only connect it for about 10 seconds or so. Everyone who tried it was successful and the battery would charge when it was put back into the charger. There should be no need to buy a replacement battery.

Battery charger light flash

Its pretty simple to fix. The lithium battery has just depolarized. Just buy a 9V battery.... put them end to end... the 9V and the lithium and touch the metal parts of them. hold for 20 seconds... if it doesn't work, lick the 9V to conduct the electricity better.. hold for 20 seconds and put directly on the charger... I just did this, and it is charging as we speak! good luck!
