I get the same problem with my Uniden. Seller said batteries but it happened on multiple handsets. I purchased another of the same model so my extra handsets would work and I get the same problem. I am buying ANOTHER phone - different brand - and if it still happens I know it is Time Warner. (most problems are with them anyway - they blew my 60" TV and would take no responsibility. Too bad they have a monopoly.)

The hand sets probably need to go through the 'registration' process with the base station. Look up the steps on how to do this in your manual.

One thing that the manual sometimes does not highlight clearly is that first you need to press and hold down a button on the main base station for a while until it beeps. Then you can go through the menu on the hand set to complete the registration process.

Why does screen indicate "searching"?

The handset cannot communicate with its base.

When the handset cannot establish its secure (encrypted) radio
link with the base it is 'paired with' or 'registered' to, it will first
say "Connecting....", then it will display "Out of Range or No
Power at Base", then it settles at the infamous "Searching..."
display.

Although rare, the registration between base and handset can
become corrupted and lost so that we must de-register and
then re-register the pair.

First, ensure that power is 'on' at the base (a more common cause)
and the cradle will charge the handset, etc.

Second, be sure the handset battery is well charged as a weak battery will interfere with the registration process.

Then try the following ( 'works for the D1680, D1481, and similar):

To deregister the handset:

1. Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say
"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]
scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]
display reads "Place in base..."

Next, to re-register the handset:

2. Set the handset into the base cradle and wait,
after ~30 seconds the handset should display
"Handset #" and be good to go...
or it will display "Registration Failed"

Good luck!

There is a message "Searching" on the phone, How do I get it back to working.

You might try to de-register the handset and re-register
it to the base. Be sure the handset's battery is well
charged, a weak battery can impede the registration.

( I ) To de-register the errant handset:

1. Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time until the screen displays
"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
2. press [select]
3. scroll to "Base Unavailable"
4. press [select]
5. display says "Not Registered"

( II ) To register the handset to the base:

1. open the base display's [menu]
2. scroll to "Register Accy."
3. press [select]
4. on the handset, press and hold [ # ] until
the handset display says "Registering"
5. In ~30 seconds, handset display will say
"Registration Complete" or
"Registration Failed".

This is described on page 22 of the manual.

Good luck!

DECT 6.0 cordless. Why won't it register the handset when placed on the base?

This could be several things.... the simplest is that a weak
handset battery can interfere with registration. Or,
does the handset display say "Connecting..." or
"Searching...." or "Out of Range / no power at base ..." ??

In these cases the handset is registered to another base and
must be de-registered before it can be registered again.

To deregister the handset:

Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say:

"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]

scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]

display reads "Place in base..." and it should be ready to
register.

Good luck!

Hi, Bruce Kelly I have a Uniden DECT1480-3 That the screens on all hand set's say's SEARCHING. I can not get a dial tone so I am unable to make a call or recieve a call. Their is no dial tone and all of...

All of the handsets appear to have lost their
registration to the base and will need to
be first de-registered then re-registered.
It may be necessary to do this in three stages.
First be sure that all of the handset batteries
are fully charged.
1.
Clear one of the handsets of its registration:
hold down both the [END] and [#] keys
at the same time until the display shows the
SYSTEM RESET menu.
Since the handset is not recognized by its
base, select "Base Not Available".
Confirm the choice by selecting "Yes".
This handset will now display
"Handset Not Registered"
--
2.
With "...Not Registered" displayed, place
the handset into the base unit cradle.
The handset should now dieplay
"Handset Registering"
After ~30 seconds the display should show
"Registration Complete" and will have a
handset unit number.
If the unit shows "Handset 1" (doubtful)
then just repeat steps 1 & 2 above for each
additional handset in turn. This can also be
the route if you do not care what the numbers
are and do not exceed the maximum count
for your system ( some are 4, 5, or even 12 ).
If the handset is a number other than 1 you
may want to clear the base & re-register
all of the handsets:
3.
Using the now-registered and working handset
(number x), press both the [END] and [#] keys at the same time until the display shows the
SYSTEM RESET menu.
This time, choose "Deregister HS" and the
System Reset Menu will prompt you to
select from the list of registered handsets
which one you want to deregister: choose
one that is NOT the one you have working.
Cycle around deleting them all until only the
one that is working is left: select that one and
the system will be ready to start re-registering
all handsets again from Handset #1.
Start at process (1) above, then (2).
Good Luck!!

How tomake outgoing calls with my american telecom digital cordless phone model#ra23634H

Thuis was hard to find but it worked for my ra2364hh's
note the phone stopped working in "tone dial" after 2 months and now functions with "pulse dial" only.....

Registration The handset and base will be pre-registered with a digital security code identification, which is stored in the phone’s memory, so that your phone will be ready to work right out of the box. However, your phone also has a procedure to allow you to re-register in case the link is lost accidentally. Enter menu, press the key - Select REGISTER and confirm PIN CODE will be displayed, enter the PIN code (the default value is 0000) and confirm. SEARCHING will be displayed while your handset is in registration mode Press and hold the Page key for 3 seconds on the base until the “In use” LED is ON, putting the base in registration mode SUCCESS will be displayed. This means the handset has located the base, and will get a handset number from the base that displays after the handset name for internal calling. If the handset does not locate the base, FAILED will be displayed and it will return to the non-located display mode that displays BS SEARCH with the antenna icon flash. Try again and check that you are not in an environment with interference. Note: Your base can register up to four handsets. If you have more than one handset, repeat the above steps to register each new handset.

TESTED IT 2 minutes ago and it WORKS.....

Did you already try cleaning the connections on the phone and the base with alcohol on a Q-tip? Make sure the connections on the phone are touching the base propely.

Registering a new phone

With a little searching I was not able to confirm this phone could handle more than one cordless handset. Are you replacing a defective handset or trying to add a second. If adding, do you know if it can handle the second unit (is it advertised on the box, in the user guide, etc?) If replacing, you most likely have to de-register the old handset on the base unit before you can register a new one. If you are adding, try de-registering the working handset anyway and registering the new one. If the new one registers and you cannot re-register the once working phone you will know either the system cannot handle two phones or (if the new one will not register but you can again re-register the original) that the new handset has a problem and should be returned.
