Hi Lofatman, If this problem happens with the memory card when its in either slot 1 or slot 2 I suggest you clean the contacts of the memory card. If it just happens when you have in Slot 1 or Slot 2 only, Go to Radio Shack and get a Can of contact cleaner that has a Brush built into the Spray nozzle. if you do not have success with that, you must open the PS2 case, and Remove the Controler ports and clean up the whole controller port assembly. If that doesn't work, and your frustrated and not Electronically skilled enough to do this. I can get the PS2 in tip top shape, for $32 and that includes return shipping. The fact is your memory card is corrupted, same thing happens in flash disc which reads about a half full of MB but literally it has no data inside.

I was playing NCAA 2005 and my game froze, so i was forced to press reset. i restarted the game and it just shows a red information box with nothing in it. What do i do. Inside the memory slot of the ps2 you will see a series of gold metal bands. They each should be slightly bowed above the plastic to contact the memory card. Often one or two are flat and miss contact. Take off cover and gently using a needle lift up these bands slightly. This should fix problem.

Some Memory cards are not compatible with all games. Try a diffrent game with your memory card to see if it loads. I have some games that will not work with my memory cards. I need to buy a newer version or something like that.

DNT FORMAT IT if you do then it will just unformat its self when you turn it back on i have the same problem if i was you i would try deleting some stuff off the memory card (turn the play station on with out a disk in and click on memory card) than delete some old data you dont want. but if that still dont work then try blowing in the memory card (it might be a bit old). after you have done all of these things and it still dont work then i would go on a website about sony play stations and unformating memory cards, and there will be a phone number ring it tell them whats happened and they will surly send you a new memory card but that would meen your old memory card would have to go in the bin :( its a plesure to help.

Yeah, my ps2 memory cards are saying that there is not sufficiant space on the card, and that my ps1 memory card is unformatted, then it says "format now?" and if i press yes it says "unformattable."
