Vostro 1500 Charger Light goes off when plugged into Laptop

Hi

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, about 1.5 years old.
When i connect the charger just to a power socket
the green light on the charger comes on but when i plug the
the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger
goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still
does the same thing, and under both conditions the laptop will not
power up and no lights appear on it.
The only way i can get the light back on the charger is to unplug from
the laptop and wall socket and then just plug it back into the wall socket and the light appears.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rich

Its the charger as the laptop would run if it was just a battery fault as you can turn a laptop on with just the charger in with no battery. Your charger lights on so there is a fault between the charger power pack (Big box with light) and the connector that goes in the laptop. Its common for these wires to melt if your laptop overheats. You may need to clean the vents of your laptop out and free them of dust to prevent overheating. Hope i helped good luck!

Hey okee,

First of all, have you experienced any power outtages around the time your charger started doing this?

I can almost assure you that nothing is wrong with the charger. The problem is actually with the notebook. The charger light will come off if there is a shortage, which probably means your computer has experienced some electrical malfunction. I had the same experience with my Vostro 1500 and I used the charger in my Vostro 1510, and it works. I used the charger for my 1510 on the 1500 and the light came off, just as I had expected.

In a nutshell, your notebook has shorted out, so if you still have the warranty, then you can send it back for a new one. If the warranty has expired, you look into purchasing a motherboard for that model. I would save an additional 200 and get a brand new laptop tho....it's up to you. Hope this helps.

Vostro 3500 won't turn on and charger light is flashing

How old is your laptop? if it is over 5-6 months it could be because of a faulty battery. You may want to upgrade or change your battery.

Dell inspiron said battery low plug into charger, when plugged in charger light goes out and laptop will not power on, why?

Remove the main battery from the laptop and try power, if it works the battery is bad, if no change the charger needs to be checked for proper voltage. Since your laptop is less than a year old you should have warranty for up to the year, check this asp and find your paperwork should verify.

Chareger of my laptop dell vostro 1500 is not working

there is nothing you can do to a charger as the technology is such. but I have seen that in such cases the problem could also be with the socket on the laptop. check that as well. if the charger is not working then buy a universal charger and use it.

Whenever i plug my charger in, a message is displayed saying the power type cannot be determined and the computer will not charge.

I had the exact same problem (Vostro 1500), the short story is the computer is dead and I'm looking at replacing the motherboard. Here's the long story: Whenever I got the error message, I'd fiddle with the connection at the back of the computer, and "reset" the power adapter (see below for my reset procedure). That worked for a while until last week--the computer refused to recognize the power adapter, and my little trick wouldn't work. I have no means for charging the battery, so now the whole system is dead in the water. I've determined the problem is not the adapter itself, as it works fine in another similar unit I own. It's definitely the computer's power port or some internal component related to it. Lo and behold, a bit of searching on the internet has revealed that this is a common flaw with Dell Inspiron 1500 series, and Vostro is a close relative of the Inspiron. I'm going out on a limb and assuming it's the "Inspiron Affliction." Anyway, every solution I've found recommends replacing the motherboard, because the power port is integrated with said board. $225-$300 is the going price. I'd just use a dock, but Vostro doesn't accomodate a dock, so that option is out :-/

Dell Power Adapter Reset: If your power adapter has an indicator light, does it refuse to glow when plugged in? To "reset" it, unplug the adapter from the wall and computer, then unplug the cord where it connects to the transformer brick. Plug it back into the brick, then plug it into the wall but not the computer. If the indicator light doesn't glow, then something is wrong with the adapter. But if the light glows, then your adapter is good. The next step is to plug it into the computer, if the indicator light stays on, you should be OK for now (although it will probably fail permanently sometime soon). On the other hand, if the indicator light flashes briefly and goes out, the problem is in the computer -- back up your files while you still have battery power! Either way, if your computer is still in warranty, I recommend extending it another two or three years, if that's an option.

I have dell vostro 1400 laptop.when my latop charger is plugged in laptop is charged but as suddenly when i unplugged charger laptop is shutdown no battry is charged what is the problem?

You have either a faulty/worn out battery or a faulty charging circuit.
Recharageable battery have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and over the years the battery life gets shorter and shorter until it is worn out and won't charge any more.
If the battery is more than 2 years old then the battery is most likely worn out and needs to be replaced.
