Hi
I have a Dell Vostro 1500, about 1.5 years old.
When i connect the charger just to a power socket
the green light on the charger comes on but when i plug the
the other end into the laptop the green light on the charger
goes off, I have taken the battery off the laptop and it still
does the same thing, and under both conditions the laptop will not
power up and no lights appear on it.
The only way i can get the light back on the charger is to unplug from
the laptop and wall socket and then just plug it back into the wall socket and the light appears.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rich
Which window is running on ur laptop ?
Its the charger as the laptop would run if it was just a battery fault as you can turn a laptop on with just the charger in with no battery. Your charger lights on so there is a fault between the charger power pack (Big box with light) and the connector that goes in the laptop. Its common for these wires to melt if your laptop overheats. You may need to clean the vents of your laptop out and free them of dust to prevent overheating. Hope i helped good luck!
Hey okee,
First of all, have you experienced any power outtages around the time your charger started doing this?
I can almost assure you that nothing is wrong with the charger. The problem is actually with the notebook. The charger light will come off if there is a shortage, which probably means your computer has experienced some electrical malfunction. I had the same experience with my Vostro 1500 and I used the charger in my Vostro 1510, and it works. I used the charger for my 1510 on the 1500 and the light came off, just as I had expected.
In a nutshell, your notebook has shorted out, so if you still have the warranty, then you can send it back for a new one. If the warranty has expired, you look into purchasing a motherboard for that model. I would save an additional 200 and get a brand new laptop tho....it's up to you. Hope this helps.
