I have a Sony KDE-P42 mrx1, the warranty has expired and now overnight I get sound but no picture, any ideas on the problem and how much would I be looking at for a reputable technician have a look see?
Thanks in advance.
Try this simple test i know its kinda weird, but it helps to know what seems to be the problem.tap your unit three times, while tapping look at the screen, see if it flicker or the screen has picture.then, check all connection, if its all ok. then, you'll need a tech to do a manual troubleshooting.

Typical failure for all plasma tv's is a blown Y-sustain board. Another high failure for all tv's is dried out bulging capacitors in any of the power boards. You likely have one of these problems.
The backlight inverterer section circuit might have damaged. Get it repaired by the authorized service center, as it is in warranty period.

try to remove back cover and check for the possible lost contact specially for the inserted ribbon wire. and test on if still no pict. we need to isolate back ckt as attached.http://www.boogster.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/20080414-plasma-repair-002.jpg
Sounds like something on one of the boards went. You heard a snap. May have been a capicitor that popped. If it is still under warranty, take it in and have it replaced. If not, depending upon your abilities you may want to take it to a tv repair place or fix it yourself.
still in warranty ? take back to store . anyplace in the video section may go including screen hope you bought a service contract take my advice on Serv Contract. get one ! also Vizio does not have too many techs as well Sams Manuals for Vizio available for techs.
Hi Darnez,
It sound like to me that one of the boards that power the bad side of the screen is getting hot and quitting. The boards are not too expensive to replace but getting them is generally the big problem. ( At least for our company). The set would be worth tkaing to a local shop and have it looked at, but replacement costs are going down every day it seems.
Good Luck
I hope in some way this has helped
