Ingersol T30 won't shut off and blows pressure release valve

Ingersol Rand T30 keeps pumping and won't shut off and pressure release valve blows and keep running. I replaced the pressure release switch and it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Don't know where the safety disconnect is at?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Is there any sort of shutoff for servicing or for in case something like this happens? It should be a lockable safety switch with a lever on the outside so that a maint. person can lock it out for personal safety.

Can you tell if the contactor opens when you turn off the safety disconnect?

The wire juction box on your compressor has a pressure switch that may be wound in to tight take the cover off the box there should be a switch with a machine screw with nut and washer and spring back this nut off and see if that helps if you go to far you just crank it back in until the switch hit although it may be the other way around you may have to tighten to lower the pressure some of them are made that way if this does not solve your problem send me a picture of the switch and can solve it from there

Either you've got a bad pressure switch, or possibly the wiring is not hooked up right. I assume it's wired 220 L1 and L2 are your main power supply, T1 and T2 go to the motor(on my compressor not IR though).

Won't build top pressure an shut off

It sounds like your pressure switch is not set correctly. It is possible it is set too high for the compressor you have.

I have just bought an old ingersol rand T30 A2955 it has a knocking noise I would like to investigate it further but would like to have a manual handy before I strip it down do you know were to get one...

T30 compressors have changed very little over the years. You can use practically any t30 parts list for an aid in looking at how things line-up.
The link below is pretty much what you will find. Your local ingersol rand repair center will have parts and service manual for your unit. Easy way to look into interior of the pump without tearing many gaskets is to remove cylinder at the base of the pump. Quite heavy so you will need a lift of some sort. Good luck with your repair.

T30 model 2475N7.5 Ingersoll Rand will not bleed off head pressure when up to 145psi shuts down but will not start when at 95psi takes out breaker 50amp

If air continously comes from the bottom of the pressure switch (bleeder valve) you have a bad tank check valve. The check valve is located on the receiver tank where the copper line from the compressor head goes to the tank. The brass hex between the copper line and the receiver tank is the check valve. Remove it after making sure all pressure has been bleed off the tank. Then you can inspect it. I recommend replacing it unless there is something obviously stuck in it that can be removed with no damage to the check valve. Another way to see if it is the check vale is to loosen the nut on the copper line at the HP head that goes to the receiver tank. If air continously blows from the copper line the check valve is leaking.

I have a leak on my older T30 compressor. The

The valve is a unloader valve that should shut when the compressor is running and open when the pump stops to relieve the head pressure for the next start of the compressor. if air keeps coming out long after the pump has stopped then you have a defective valve in the left hand head.

Hello, my name is Matt and I'm on my second gas operated T30 and the Kohler engine is about to go on this one too. I'm considering mounting the 2475 pump under my truck and running it off of a PTO....

Ingersol Rand compressors are driven by a variety of motors and gas engines. They set the rpm of the pump based on the required cfm /psi output required by the customer and power source. Your compressor has aprox 12- 15 hp gas engine that develops full power at about 3600 rpm of the engine. The pump will most likely be turning about 1000 rpm. Easy to check, just mark both pulleys and count the number of turns of the engine pulley compared to the pump. Pump specifications can be found at www.grainger.com. You will find that most ingersol pumps turn from 650-1200 rpm for max output. You will max pump life if you are able to keep rpms low (600 - 1000 turns). The pump will not lubricate properly if you turn too fast. The compressor needs between 5 and 15 hp depending on the cut-out pressure. Full hp is required as the pump neers 175psi. Good luck with your project.

Ingersol rand model SS3-E runs but does not build any air pressure. Air just blows out the intake filter.

the back pressure valve has failed it costs about 15.00 and can buy from any truck parts store That's Peterbilt trucks or any large truck stores it's one of two sizes 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch when you pull it off be sure you know which way the air flow is or it will not build up.
