I have a Campbell Hausfield wheelbarrow type compressor model #vt617206aj that will not stop making air, just builds and builds until emergency relief vave opens. please help

It sounds to me that you have a defective regulator valve assembly.

This is not a trivial problem. It should be repaired and NOT used until it is repaired.

The emergency relief valve is there for a reason --- to prevent an explosion of the pressure vessel if the regulator does not shut it off.

This is not a do-it-yourself type of repair. A machine shop, or even a welding shop could probably do this repair for you.

If the compressor is an older one or a low value compressor, deep six it and get a new one.

Check for a reset button on the motor.

Howdy. It's actually called Compressor Oil and is available at nearly all hardware stores and tool rental agencies. There are several brands and they are all comparable. I use Senco, but Campbell Hausfield is also good. Farmerbear at FixYa.com

Compressor problems when filling tank
There should be a device called an "unloader " connected to the machines own switch. This releases the pressure from the compressor so it can start up without the resistance of the pressure in the tank.There should be a hissing noise when the machine stops, the sound of the air on the compressor side of a non return valve being released.

Water is condensed from the compressed air it makes and this can settlel in the switch diaphragm, in cold weather is can freeze and prevent the switch from working.....

If your motor is running and not the pump, the malfunction is either in the pump or the coupling between the motor and the pump.

Some of these compressors are manufactured so cheap now that there can be just a set screw that is loose and the motor shaft is spinning free inside of the crankshaft.

If you drain the oil out of the pump and take off the pump crankcase cover, you should be able to see the problem.

No air pressure past 60PSI on a 125PSI Campbell Hausfield WL61110
Your comperssor is oilless type and suffers from short cylinder / piston life. When the compressor no longer reaches cycle pressure the cylinder / piston should be replaced. These parts are available at www.chpower.com I believe that the part number is wl210300aj. Not expensive, enjoy.

look at the motor nameplate it should have voltage and fla which is full load amps this should be calculated by an electrician for wire size hope this helps
