Romulus Name for Maxtro D540X

Hi, right Bios doesn't recognize properly my hard drive D540X-D4. It's recognized like a romulus with 0 bytes. I cannot formatt it or something like that. I suspect It can be solved installing(reinstalling) the correct firmware. Does anybody know how to install the firmware in this hard drive? Does anybody know other possible solution? Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: HDD not recognized in XP Installation

if you are using it as a slave hard drive, you should be able to right click my computer, manage, then in next window double click storage, then disk management, then look for your drive, you can then look to see if its recognised, if not it will tell you that its not configured, and you should be able to right click on it and format it.

If you have you primary HDD set on Cable select, and the secondary HDD is set on anything other then Cable select (with the jumper settings on the back of the HDD) then there will be an error.. Also, if you primary is set to master/slave and the same for the secondary, it will cause problems.

Another thought, if one of your drives is SATA and the other IDE, if the IDE is set to master, there may be an issue as SATA HDD's will try to post as the master drive

SOURCE: maxtor STM380215A 80 GB pata external hard drive not recognized by xp

The thing is the missing drivers..They may be made not to use a driver and be recognized directly in some operation systems..but if you have a windows xp sp1..(home edition ) ..it will not work so well in what matter the drivers for devices..My advice is to reinstall teh windows and use a windows xp sp3 ..if your computer can not handle the windows 7 one ..and will work ..
Or ..look over the internet and try to locate the driver needed for this hard disk .and install it ...IUt is probably a generic driver , but just missing from your system .
Another issue may be the port used..Not all usb ports work or have power ..or just be a 1.0 port that will not support the plugged device ..try to use another port and see if it works .usually these hard disks are on 3.0 usb ..now a days

Hard drive not recognized

Hi,
If You are only one HDD connect then you make primary HDD jumper slot sat. And right direction data cable sat. And connect motherboard port proper.

Open Bios and check it HDD driver detect or not. If detect ok if problem then change data cable and power cable. Some diagnosis your problem solved.

Thanks..

Romulus Name for Maxtro D540X

This is a common problem, your drive is in what is known as safe mode or kernel mode, what has happened is some modules of the firmware have failed to load and so it is now only detecting the logic board. I'm afraid there won't be much you can do without the special software to read the firmware aspect of the drive, you need to load what is known as a loader which contains the code to boot the heard drive up so we can write to the firmware (the firmware is stored on the platters) so really your only option is to send it off to a data recovery company who have all the gear like Digital Recovery

The drive was damaged during the interuption. This has happened to alot of my flash drives and there is not way to fix it. You can, however, replace the hard drive in the case. Open the case and you will see a small laptop hard drive (that's all it is), purchase a new replacement and throw it in there.

To solve this problem you need a third party burning software. Windows XP does not include the ability to properly recognize DVD's when you drag and drop and sees it as CDRW. When you bought your DVD, there may have been a disk with a version of Nero on it. It works well but there are also other third party software apps that will do as well. Even some free ones. Hope this helps.

Adding a hard drive to a PC

You need to set the little jumpers at the rear of the hard drive and the cd rom drive. Set the hard drive as Master and the cd rom as Slave. Both devices should then be recognized.
