When I try to open any link in windows mail I get an error message that application cannot be found

Opening from a Desktop app is usually the problem... try opening directly from the browser to read the messages... as far as the desktop , there are tons of settings and updates that must be done.. it could take a lot of time and trial an error.. just make sure your using the most updated version of the software otherwise your stuck using the browser only.

In case you get the error message, while trying to open your mail file using the icon on the workspace, you can dismiss the error message and close all the opened tabs of the mail file. Go to the workspace and use the icon to again open the mail file.

Use the file vcredist_x86.exe if you've got a standard Windows setup (i.e. 32 bit, not 64 bit).  As always check the system requirements.

Make sure your browser is up to date and clean it every couple of days with Ccleaner

Close Excel first and check out if Outlook or Outlook Express/Windows Mail is your mail program for Office.
Start>Settings>Control Panel....Internet options (Program Tab)
In Vista : Start>Default programs
Controls to send mail might be missing missing or disabled or there are errors when you try to mail.

sounds as if you DLL IS CORRUPT/ DLL is dinamic link library.it cant find what you asked it to.

reinstalling it might solve the problem

I found a solution posted on another site [answers.yahoo.com]which has saved me. It was posted by magnumgirl who said:

Launch internet explorer > Tools > internet options > click on "Programs" Tab > Click Make Default button.

Close your windows mail and internet explorer and open your windows mail again.

Use window search find the file and delete I did what was at support and it did not work I found this file in all users folder deleted it and all is well
