Did you try and copy something? or use another machine? Blank pages are usually the computer sending a job that contained no print information but not always-- tell me more.
good luck

SOURCE: Black ink will not print (new out of box).

If cleaning doesn't work you should talk to your retailer or Brothers support. Don't think they can expect you to use up all ink cleaning cartridges when the machine is straight out of the box..

SOURCE: MFC-490CW Won't print black

We are going to attempt to do a "power purge" to get rid of any clogged ink nozzles. Note, this will probably eat up about half of your ink, but that is the price you must pay in order to attempt to fix this bad boy.

1) Get into maintenance mode. Press these keys: Menu -> Black Start -> Scan x4 (hit it four times). A number pad should come up. If not, do it again.

2) Hit key 7, then key 6.

3) Press the right key until you get to "CLEANING BLACK."

4) Press 3.

5) Press Black Start.

After it purges and gets back to the main maintenance screen, press keys 9 and 9.

Let your printer start back up. If this does not work, try the above steps up to three times. If it does not work then, you need a new print head, which is not a user-replaceable part on this model.

Good luck.

SOURCE: The printer

You may need to clean the printhead: (make sure you have paper in the tray)

1) Press <Menu>

2) Press <Up> or <Down> arrow to select "Ink" then press <OK>

3) Press <Up> or <Down> arrow to select "Test print" then press <OK>

4) Press <Up> or <Down> arrow to select "Print quality" then press <OK>

5) Press the <Color Start> button. The quality test sheet will be printed. Check this printout for gaps in any of the colors or black in the pattern across the page.

6) The display on the printer will ask if the print quality is OK:

- If all lines are clear and visible, select "Yes"

- If gaps appear in the pattern, select "No"

7) If you select "No" the display asks (in turn) if the print quality is OK for black, and the three colors.

Respond "Yes" or "No" accordingly. (In this manner you may clean just the black or color nozzle that is giving you the problem)

8) The display asks if you want to start cleaning - choose "Yes"

9) After cleaning is finished press the <Color Start> button - the print quality sheet will print again.

At this point you may determine that another cleaning cycle is necessary. You may need to repeat cleanings (up to five times) to resolve the problem. Any more than that indicates a problem that may need brother customer support.

10) When the print quality test sheet meets with your approval, you may exit by pressing <Stop/Exit>

Blank pages printing

Sounds like the printhead is pretty severely dried. As standard cleaning cycles haven't helped I would recommend picking up some LC900 cleaning cartridges from eBay etc. These are cartridges filled/partially filled with cartridge flush and break down ink inside the printer.

Most of them contain a mix of ink and flush and you can carry on printing as usual. Given the severity of the dried/blocked printhead you have I would recommend just running cleaning cycles, but leave 10 minutes or so between cleans to avoid overheating the printhead.

Prints out blank pages, won't test print, new ink, cleaned multi-times, still blank!

Silly question from my side: have you removed the tape covering the nozzles of the cartridges? Is it original Brother cartridges, or is it compatibles?

I have installed a new ink cartridge and the z645 printer. It sounds and acts like it is printing, but the page is blank. After I first installed the new cartridge, I printed a test page, but only about 2...

Doing the "clean printhead/cartridge nozzles" multiple times would have cleared clogged nozzles. You can also try to manually wipe the cartridge nozzles with a slightly moistened soft cloth. If that still won't help, try to replace your cartridge with a different known working cartridge to determine if your other cartridge is faulty.

Yellow ink will not print

On the Brother MFC series printers it uses remote ink trays as you will know, instead of having print heads directly on the ink cartridge. Whilst this approach makes it cheaper to produce the ink, and easier to change the cartridge, it can make it difficult to clear clogs.

There are several things you can do which may help, but B. and C. are at your own risk. All steps assume you have a new yellow ink cartridge.

A. In paint or another program, create a full page yellow image and keep printing it out. See if it gets any better after each print. If it does, continue until it seems to be working fine.

B. If you can manage to get to the print head, you can get a cue tip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and gently clean the print head. Leave 20 minutes to dry, and then do step A. again.

C. (AS A VERY LAST RESORT AT YOUR OWN RISK. THIS IS GOING TO RUIN YOUR YELLOW INK CARTRIDGE SO USE AN OLD YELLOW ONE IF YOU CAN) If steps A. and B. fail, you can put a "little" rubbing alcohol in the Yellow Ink Cartridge, and keep trying step A. If Yellow starts printing again, swap to a yellow cartridge that does not have rubbing alcohol in it. You are now going to have to cycle through many pages to clear the rubbing alcohol from the ink lines.

Note that if you keep cleaning the cartridges, it is going to use a lot of ink, and may actually hinder solving your yellow ink problem.

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

My brother mfc-240c doesn't print black. I replace the black with a new cartridge as it still wouldn't print black. I also tried to clean all the colors numerous times, but to no avail. I don't know what...

Wow, something similar just happened to me the other day, my black ink ran out & when I replaced it, it just wouldn't print, I kept trying to print things and it sounded like it was printing but then it would just shoot out a blank page of paper (I was trying to print BLACK). So, I went to the Brother website for troubleshooting tips and it said to make sure I had the ink cartridges installed properly so I took the black cartridge back out (it WAS installed correctly, but I was willing to try anything at this point), so I took it out, gave it a blow, like how you would blow on the old Nintendo game catridges when they did not work-I'm not sure if this did anything at all but it's what I did) and then I put it back in). The machine asked if had just replaced black I said "Yes", then it did another "cleaning", as it does when you replace any cartridge. Then I went in the menu to have it print out a "test page" (the instructions for this were in the troubleshooting tips on the website), the test page printed out with NOT all the little black squares as IT SHOULD BE so when it asked me if the test page was ok, I said "NO", then it did ANOTHER CLEANING and I did another test page, this time it worked ok, then I was able to print.
So, bottom line is, maybe take the ink out, make sure you installed it correctly, put it back in, print a test page, if the test page does nto come out right, then tell it it is no good by selecting "NO", then it will do another cleaning and then maybe it will work, if not, then check for more troubleshooting tips on their website, good luck.

Brother mfc MFC-5440CN magenta issues

If you have used generic ink the head is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore.

Last chance is to use original brother ink which has cleaning fluids within the ink. Run the cleaning procedure twice and simply print 10 PAGES afterwards. Wait A DAY AND TRY TO PRINT IN MAG AGAIN:

If there will be no mag. the ph is definitley clogged and needs replacement.

Brother mfc 210c printer

Check ink cart if it is well placed into the ink cart assy. Do the cleaning procedure by pressing INK skip the arrow-button down until CLEANING is displayed. Press start mono (blue button). After cleaning cycle you are asked by machine to print a quality test sheet. Do so and follow display instructions. Do the cleaning procedure a max of three times! When there still is no BK the printhead either is clogged or dryed out. Sorry, this cant be fixed anymore.
