We have a new cable box, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250 HDC rented thru Comcast. the Cablebox signal is connected to a Bose Lifestyle® V20 home theater system, via an HDMI to HDMI cable. The Bose Lifestyle® V20 home theater system is connected to the TV (Sony Bravia XBR4) also with an HDMI to HDMI cable. We used to be able to conrol the sound with the remote for the cable, you'd see the bars moving and the sound would go up and down, and the mute worked as well. Since switching to the new Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250 HDC cablebox, we can no longer control the sound with the remote for the cablebox. We still see the bars (from 0 to 30) moving, but the volume level does not go up or down. This is very annoying, I want to get back to the way the sound worked with the old cable box.

it's already set to variable, otherwise I would not see the bars (from 0 to 30) moving, but the volume level does not go up or down. The mute does work either.

Sounds like the tv needs to be programmed to variable output on the audio control section in the main menu.

How do I connect a Sony DVD DVP-SR210P to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4240 HDC and a Sylvania TV C320SLX?

I am not sure you can connect your DVD player to your cable box. You should be able to connect both your cable box and DVD player to your TV set with two HDMI cables. This link is a pdf_usecares file of the TV manual that shows how to hook up your dad and cable box.

I can't turn on closed captioning on Hitachi with Comcast scientific atlanta explorer 2200 cable box. Any words of wisdom?

Both the set and the box used should have the closed caption feature.

If box is in line to rear audio/video jacks you will have to engage the CC from the box.

I doubt it will work if hooked that way from within the box---go to menu and in CC area in either set or box select CC1 which is the most common one used.

What button on Bose remote will erase material on cable box DVR?

Try 'Enter' if you haven't already. A yes/no question on a cable box is usually a toggle, so select yes and press Enter. If that doesn't work, try a different code from the system menu. (Press 'System' and go to 'remote control.')

Cant get all componenets to work together

Okay so you need to run a fiber optic cable to back of bose system for sound on the cablebox if it's a hd cablebox. If you don't have a fiberoptic connection on cable box then you can use a digital coax audio cable and plug it from cablebox if it has it to back of bose system where the plugs are colored all black under the red and white connections. This cable is basically a yellow video rca type cable. That cable doubles as a video cable and a digital audio cable. But anyways once you plug your cablebox up digitally you need to make sure under the settings or setup menu of cablebox that you go under audio and make sure your cablebox is set to dolby digital instead of hdmi. Especially if it's a scientific atlanta time warner cable box. The bose remote should operate eveything still unless I read your question wrong and your saying it doesn't.

Off Air?

The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.
