Thread clogs up bobbin and knots up thread on back side of fabric

Immediately when starting to sew thread knots up and clogs up bobbib

Did you try and clean out the bobbin, shuttle and race area? If there is the tiniest thread or a bit of lint in there it will throw a hissy fit! Make sure you also put in a new needle. Also rethread it once more after your done. Use a can of air in the bobbin area as it should blow out all the stuff in there.

I hope this helps: I bought a machine, and had the same problem... I read reviews, found that soOo many people were having this same problem. I thought it was a defect or something with the brand of machine so I exchanged it for another... well, the instruction aren't always clear. Not until I watched a DVD that came with my new machine did I realize I wasn't running the thread through the bobbin correctly. I had been just running it through the hole in the bobbin case... not right. Don't just thread it through the hole from the inside. When you place the bobbin in the case, pull out some of the thread and run it from the side between the little **** / split in the metal and you have to pull it down to the left and UNDER the metal strip held by the tension screw (the little sliver of metal). So, the thread is actually being pressed between two pieces of metal. I felt like a "dingbat" when I realized why I couldn't work it. This is kind of hard to explain, but I hope this helps...

I also had this problem and on reading the manual I discovered that if the tension is too tight in the bobbin thread, it will gather and glob and cause a problem. On the bottom of page 12 of the manual it says that "Lower thread tension can be adjusted by turning screw on bobbin case slightly to the right (clockwise) to INCREASE tension. Anti-clockwise to the left to DECREASE tension."

This one little instruction made all the difference in the world for me, as well as making sure the thread in the bobbin was put into the case correctly. Necchin DVD and manual leave much to be desired, but if you just patiently read each section and play with the parts you're reading about, you can figure it out. (If I can do it, ANYONE can!!) This is a year after you asked your question but I hope this helps someone else.

Before threading the top thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot. This allows the thread to seat fully in the tension disk. Failing to do this will frequently cause the top thread to make globs of knots under the fabric.

Bobbin thread make knots under material, please help. Have no manual

Knotting occurs when your top thread and bottom thread are not properly contacted or do not interact correctly. Whenever knotting happens, you will notice that thread will bunch underneath the fabric. You can try re-threading the upper part of your sewing machine, making sure the thread is passing through every single thread guide on its way to the needle. If you find yourself constantly adjusting the tension of your bobbin thread, check the bobbin itself. Plastic bobbins especially can wear, causing them to grow loose within the bobbin housing and making it difficult to maintain correct tension. Try switching to a new metal bobbin and see if that resolves your issue.

Why is the fabric not feeding forward when stitching

on the front of the machine there is a lever/knob that sets the stitch size
if it is in the middle position ,the teeth will just go up and down and not back and forward
check that setting
it is used to seal of the threads when starting to sew and when finishing
start the sew for about 1/2" then reverse the feed then go forward again to complete the sewing
at the end of the sew do the same thing again before cutting the threads
this locks the threads as a knot so that the seam will not come undone

Thread tension

BOBBIN TENSION: BOB THE BOBBIN CARRIER AND BOBBIN WHILE ADJUSTING TENSION. WHEN IT WILL EXTEND ONE INCH IT IS RIGHT.
TOP TENSION: USUALLY A GOOD STARTING POINT IS THREE. THE TENSION IS RIGHT WHEN THE KNOT IS FORMED IN THE CENTER OF THE FABRIC.
TOP TOO TIGHT: WILL PULL EXCESS AMOUNT OF BOBBIN THREAD UP THROUGH THE FABRIC.
TOP TOO LOOSE: THE BOTTOM OF FABRIC WILL HAVE EXCESS AMOUNTS OF THREAD. USUALLY A MESS OF THREAD.

I have a Bernina Deco 330, I am having issues with the Bobbin thread coming through on top of design. It is also tieing the knot in top of the fabric. The design will be flipped, the smooth side on back of...

A few things to check. Is the upper thread caught? You can test the upper tension, that could be pulling up the bobbin thread, by putting a size 80 needle in the machine. Put the presser foot down and pull on the upper thread it should bend the needle about an 1/8 inch when the tension is at 5. Also check the threading is done correctly and not catching on a thread guide.

Bobbin thread is knotting on backside of fabric

lift out bobbin case, tension on thread should be enough to support bobbin case if not small adjusting screw on side of bobbin casing

Singer 301a sewing machine does not sew for more than 2 secs...top thread just knots into a huge ball on bottom of fabric...everything is threaded correctly and all tension set well...next step is trash...

Recheck the top thread and bobbin tension for equal balance of thread when sewing. The knotting of thread problem is usually because the tensions are too tight or too loose and/or thread may not be properly threaded. Another reason is when the bobbin thread is wind imbalanced it will cause the thread to knot-up when sewing. This problem is notorious when the bobbin is winded within the bobbin case on some machines. The bobbin thread need to be wind smoothly in the bobbin to avoid this problem.

Bobbin continues to pose problem - knotting thread underside of fabric,

In 99% of all problems with "bird's nesting" or "knotting" it is an issue of the thread coming out of the take up lever (at threading guide #3) (from the spool; through the first thread guide at #1 down to #2 and up to # 3) when the thread comes out of the take up lever, the machine can not regulate the thread and it floods the machien with thread and wraps itself around the bobbin case. OR! Your tension is too loose. Raise it. Your machine should preform perfect at tension #4 unless you are using speciality threads or fabrics.

ALWAYS be in the habit of threading your machine with presser foot up so that while threading between paths 1 and 2 you are certain to have the thread pass throught the tension disks.

This will happen on a $50.00 machine or a $5,000 machine. The thread needs to be regulated.

USE GOOD THREAD!

Thanks,

Bonnie
