My Nikon coolpix s8100 camera will not keep the sd card inside. It is not locking the card when I try to insert it.

I have tried inserting a different SD card and that doesn't help, no SD card will lock inside the camera.

Have you tried inserting it in the opposite direction, if the flash card's label faces left, turn it to face the right as it's designed to be inserted only one way. If this does not work, shine a flashlight into the cavity as a foreign object may have fallen inside.

Testimonial: "The SD card will only insert from one direction, if turned around they cannot be inserted at all. I have shined a light inside to try to see anything. I have not noticed anything that should not be there (lint ect)When i push the SD card all the way in the spring just pushes it back out."

thanks the card can only be inserted one direction, although later that same day i looked inside again and did see an object that shouldn't have been inside the camera. your comment was helpful because it made me want to give it a second look. so thanks. i would have never found it other wise. I was able to continue taking pic's on Christmas Day also and everyone was happy. THANKS :)

SOURCE: Camera won't accept an SD Memory Card anymore

Hello

If the card works in another camera or another card doesn't work in your camera , the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea

The L105 works with SD cards. Make sure you're not using an SDHC card. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Coolpix s8100 technical support my camera dropped and broke so I was given a replacement. When I insert memory card from other camera and try to take pics, a message reads, "file contaisn no image...

First, get a card reader (they're very cheap) and use it to download the pics from the card. Then, re-insert the card into the camera and go into the menu and find "format"....follow the on-screen instructions to completely erase the card and optimize it for your new camera.

Have a nikon coolpix S8100 with a 4gb card. My hp photosmart 7960 reads "error reading card" when trying to upload pictures. I have no problems uploading my old memory card from my cannon A95.

The 7960 works with SD cards. It does not work with SDHC cards such as your 4GB card.

SD cards max out at 2GB. While SDHC cards are physically identical, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them.

Your camera supports SD HC, multimediacard and SD memory cards, is that card of a different type? you will get this problem if the card is of too large capacity too, your camera ,might have an upper limit for supported memory capacities.

Nikon Coolpix 5900/4 GB Kingston SD Card

The 5900 uses SD cards. The 4GB card you have is actually an SDHC card and will not work in the 5900. You'll have to stay with cards 2GB and smaller.
