Fill kettle until 3/4 full with 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Boil and allow to stand overnight.

Empty solution from kettle. Fill the kettle with clean water, bring to boil and discard water. Repeat and the kettle will be ready for use.

Or you can use a proprietary kettle descaler, which is available at most hardware stores.

Some electric kettles even have a temperature control system. However, when it comes to cleaning the kitchen appliances, people tend to overlook the cleaning of the electric kettle.
Cleaning is an inherent part of maintenance of the equipment because the mineral deposits, especially from hard water cause scaling which gradually slow down the process of heating.

Use lemon water for cleaning as this is the best as well as cheapest method. For further details, please click here:

How do I improve the electrical connection between the base and kettle of my Breville Ikon?

The kettle should be considered unsafe for continued use. It has failed as the parts used are not suitably rated for the load they carry. The only safe option is to replace the kettle with a new one.

My Breville kettle does not beep anymore when the desired temperature has been reached.

Might not work, so don't cuss me if it doesn't, but have you tried demineralizing it? Pour it full of white vinegar, let it heat to about 160-180 and then turn it off and let it soak for a couple of hours. The vinegar will dissolve any mineral deposits on or in the heating system. Mineral deposits are the bain of electric water heating systems of all types. Drip coffee makers, 95% of the time, a premature ***** is due to mineral deposits. It also destroys house hot water heaters.

The kettle is not getting a good contact, It must be jiggled to make a conection. is there a way to correct this?

There will be a contact somewhere within the kettle which is probably sooty and will need cleaning. If you can take it apart carefully you will probably be able to locate and clean the contact. Rub it with your fingers if you can get it off...or if its stubborn, use a nail file/emery board

Intermittently working

That means that there is either a lost contact inside, or a defective switch.

The kettle must be taken apart to fix the problem.

Spares for Breville Electric Kettle

Okay. I took the base off the kettle (made a special screwdriver). Saw that one of the contacts was loose on its 'swage'. Used a pin punch to re-swage it. Bingo! it worked.

New kettle breville

There's several home remedies you can try: Try 50% "White Vinegar", 50% Hot Water or 2 Denture tablets in warm water over night or Baking soda in warm water. These remove the alkaline, minerals, and nitrates that build up on the surface. There is even a commercial product you can use to clean it. I can't recall the name but look in any supermarket, you should be able to locate it.

Problems with Breville SK500XL Stainless Steel Cordless Electric Kettle

There's a thermal cutout that trips if the regular safety switch isn't enough. According to the manual, if the thermal cutout trips you have to send it back to Breville for servicing.

That may be what happened, if just letting it cool down and trying again didn't work.
