Power cut off after handle was dropped on floor while vacuuming

I have an ORECK XL. As I was vacuum cleaning last night, I dropped the handle onto my wood floor and the vacuum cleaner shut off. I checked the powe cord connection and it was fine. I unplugged and replugged the electrical connections and even changed electrical outlets. The vacuum cleaner still does not turn on. Can you help? Thanks! Sandie

Oreck vacuum repair manual

Unless you have a foot switch, the on/off switch for most Oreck vacuums are up in the handle. You will have normally 6 screws that hold the handle halves together. Take the screws out and then split the two halves apart and you will find the switch inside at the top front of the handle. You may have had a wire come off of the switch and it just needs to be plugged back onto the switch and then you can re-assemble the handle and you should be back in service. If you have a foot switch, you might need a meter to check continuity throughout the vacuum because you may have a broken wire somewhere. Hope this helps you solve your problem.

Wiring schematic oreck orbiter

Would you please email me the wire diagram for the Oreck Orbitor xl floor machine? I had to bring it on a plane, which meant that the handle had to be removed. We need to know where the blue wire goes. Thank you!

Orek very hard to push

The key to pushing an Oreck is to use as low an angle of the handle as is possible. The more upright the handle, the harder it is to push. The closer to the floor that the handle is, the easier the machine is to push.

Have an Oreck XL upright, when switch turned on no "Power" checked receptical and power supply is OK

What typically happends is if the vacuum falls over the cord will come disconnected from the switch.
there are 6 screws on the handle if you unscrew them the handle will seperate down the middle. you will see a few wires in there. the whites wires should be wire nuted together while the black wire from the long cord, the side that you plug in to the wall, would plug on to the top of the switch, unless you have a 2- speed vacuum the it also would plug into the top but on the prong that is closes to you. it will make sense when you open it up. there is another cord that come up from the base of the vacuum to the handle which is called the up cord. the black wire that comes from that plugs in to the bottom of the switch.
if that doesnt work then you might have a short in your cord that will need to be replaced or your motor could have gone bad. and oreck motor typically last about 8 to 10 years.
if more problems occur i would recommend bringing it to and authorized Oreck dealer. If your vacuum is under warranty it will be fixed for free.

Vacuum is not turning on

Try a ruling out a couple of things first before opening up the handle:

1) First lets make sure your outlet has power
a) can you plug anything else in and have it work?
b) is the vacuum plugged into a non-switched outlet?
c) will the vacuum work from a different outlet - in a different room?

2) Check the plug. Are the prongs loose? If so, you'll need to cut the
plug off, splice back the two wires (Black and White), then connect
to a new plug. You can get a new plug for $1-2.00 at any hardware
store.

3) Time to open up the handle:
a) sometimes the wires connected to the switch can become loose
and fall off. if that is the case just reconnect by plugging them
back onto the switch. You may also consider using pliers to
compress the connector onto the switch terminal.

Hope this helps!

Can I get a wiring diagram of the handle on an Oreck XL 2.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck XL Ultra Bagged Upright Vacuum. The best place to get an owner’s manual is from the Oreck Factory of which I will supply for you listed below or you can download the owner’s manual from the Oreck Website. . I would check with your local Oreck dealer or vacuum dealer in your area to see what is going on. This is most unusual for this to happen. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
