Depends how thick the material is. Most mechanical machines will sew thicker fabrics, however, if the needle is unable to penetrate the fabric, it could damage the machine. Be sure to use a heavier, sharp needle.

This may be helpful. Once you know the presser foot shaft for your machine, you should be able to find a variety of presser feet to fit your machine.

when you insert the bobbin into the bobbin case and insert into machine, make sure there is a long tail coming out of the bobbin.
Thread machine correctly and when trying to "pick-up" the bobbin thread, make sure you are spinning the flywheel the right direction.

Either the thread is not into the lower tension device correctly, your needle is in backwards, or the timing is out. Obviously first two are easily dealt with, last one is for the specialist technician.

If the bobbin case is a removable one that front loads into the free arm, then check that this is in correctly and that the bobbin is in and rotating the right way.

Make sure that you have the correct needle and that it is in the correct postion.

i think you have not looped the thread around the tension on the top before putting it onto the bobbin. you need to wrap the thread in a circle around the sphere near the regualr threading lines.
