LG LED TV with optical digital audio out connected to Denon avr-1603 optical in port 2. 2 front speakers. Not getting any sound from the speakers, only from the TV. Would like to hear the TV audio through the speakers rather than the TV. Any advice on how to set up is appreciated.

Normally the optical inputs are disabled unless specifically turned on. I dono't know your specific model. I'll research the model and update this with more specifics.

SOURCE: Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3
If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an
HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the
PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care
of the video side.
Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3
menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the
optical cable.
Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to
setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to
play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is
setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you
have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
SOURCE: I am not able to get audio through my HDMI cables.
It's a monitor - no audio source capabilities.
Get TV-related audio from its original source, not the TV or monitor. TV's and monitors are NOT hi-end audio sources.
Cable box, DVD, BD, games: these are potential hi-fi digital audio sources.
Testimonial: "Okay that make alot of sense "
I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv.
The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source.
Hope that helps!
