The DC error is most likely caused by a shorted or grounded speaker wire. Check all speaker wires, correct the problem, and then go into the sound setup settings and reset the POWER IC to ON.
According to the manual for the Alpine CDE-102, the message "DC ERROR" is displayed if there is a short to ground in the speaker wiring. Check all of your speaker wires and make sure that no bare wire is shorting against the vehicle metal or against other wires. Repair or replace the wire as necessary. After correcting the problem, set POWER IC to "POW ON" according to the instructions in your manual.
If anybody has that, they will. They have everything for that radio down to the little screws that hold the stuff inside together. If they don't show it as being in stock on their site, then you should call them and they can usually tell you when they expect to get it back in stock.
Try cleaning the lens first, if you can take the top off and are able to see the lens, using a cotton swab soaked in 91% alcohol wet the lens, don't rub it, then blow it off with computer duster. Or try a cd based lens cleaner (Radio Shack).

• Mechanism error. 1. Press the "eject" button and eject the CD. If not ejecting, consult your Alpine dealer. 2. When the error indication remains after ejecting, press the "eject" button again. If the error indication still does not turn off after pressing the "eject" button for a few times, consult your Alpine dealer. Note When the "- - - E" is displayed: In case that the disc cannot be ejected by pressing the "eject" button, press the RESET switch (refer to page 4) and press the "eject" button again. If not ejecting, consult your Alpine dealer.
my alpine cda 9856 only displays that message when my ipod dies. so your ipod pobably dies then the head unit recharges it enough in the time your resetting it that it can play again. :)
