Just plug the Red,Yellow,White into the receiver in one of the inputs. Doesn't really matter which one they are labeled just to keep it easy to keep track of.But for ease lets do video one. There should be two sets within the video one input. Put the PlayStation on the set to the right and then run the identical red white yellow from the tv to the set on the left within the video 1 box. Tune your reciever to the Video 1 channel and then the tv to what ever input you have it on probably video 1 as well and your son will be good to go.
Most of the old Sony TVs released before 2007 has an issue with its optical output. only when you use a direct cable connection to its VHF/UHF input, the optical outputs audio. Otherwise, you have to stick on the A/V connection to receive the TV audio though sound system. Please get back to me with the model # of the TV so that I can check whether the TV comes under the category.
Thanks for understanding.
Once you select a cable to use that is compatible with both devices, you must then connect it to the output on the TV set, and one of the inputs on the Surround Sound Receiver (preferably the Video Input or whatever type you selected to use). Then you must change the input on the Receiver to the proper input that you connected the cable to (most Receivers will have a Source Button if not individual source buttons i.e. Tuner, Tape, CD, Video, Aux, etc.). Note: Some Receivers if using a certain type of input will not have sound out of all 5 speakers unless the input is 5.1 compatible.
