Check the CD/DVD drives status in Device Manager.

  1. Click the Start button. In the Start Search dialog box, type dev, then click Device Manager.
  2. Locate the lDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Click on the entry to expand the list and make sure there is not a down arrow in front of a device. If a device has a down arrow in front of it, right-click on the device, then click Enable.

  6. Optical drive not detected
  7. Check BIOS setup to verify if drive is detected outside of Windows.
    1. Press the F2 key repeatedly as the computer starts.
    2. Locate the page where drives are displayed. This varies between different motherboards. Please reference your User's Guide for specific model information.
    3. Desktop computers: Refer to the Drive Configuration page (or similarly named page), or the Standard CMOS features page to identify all Optical drives that have been detected. BIOS Setup will present a table which matches drive ports (drive connectors on the motherboard) to drives detected at a given port. Example pages are linked. Reference the Product pages for the specific model.
Notebook computers: Refer to the Main page of the BIOS to identify optical drives that have been detected. BIOS setup matches a Drive Port name to a drive detected at that port. Drive Port names (left side) vary per the following examples:
      > IDE Primary/Master: [HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N-] Left-Bay PATA: PHILLIPS CD-RW/DVD-ROM-(PM) Optical Drive: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560A -(PM) DVD and CD drive names (right side) will include "CD" or "DVD" in the name.
    4. Inspect and reseat cables. Use proper Electrostatic Discharge procedures.
      1. Turn off computer and unplug power cord.
      2. Disconnect everything except the monitor and keyboard.
      3. Place computer on a stable work area with case cover facing up.
      4. Remove cover.
      5. Find internal drives.
      6. Inspect and reseat any cables to drives not detected. Click here for additional information about drives, motherboard connectors, and drive cables.
        • Check for broken connectors on drive, motherboard, and drive cables.
        • Check for bent or broken pins on drive, motherboard, and drive cables.
        • Check cable orientation.
        • If available, try a different cable. If drive works with new cable, the original cable is probably defective.

Computor wont recognize dvd player

You might need to have a computer administrator account to perform some tasks.
Most new devices your computer will recognise automatically. When your comp is running, plug in your new dvd player. Does it beep and say 'New Hardware added? If not then use
The Add Hardware Wizard which enables you to add new hardware or troubleshoot any hardware-related problems.
Open the Add Hardware Wizard

  • To open the Add Hardware Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Printers and Other Hardware. Under See Also, click Add Hardware.
  • If it can't recognise the player, it gives you the option to select the correct make and model. Is yours on the list? If not, you may need to go to the Microsoft site and update the list of players.
  • Do come back here if you need further help.

Cd player not recognized

If the CD drive icon shows up in My Computer then it may just have a dirty laser lens.
That means you have to remove the drive, take it apart and clean the lens.
If it does'nt show up in My Computer then you can restore it with a bit of help from Microsoft. Click the link below and read carefully as it requires you to go in to the registry.

Hi You can try the troubleshooting guide below, If in case the troubleshooting guide will not work I highly suggest to contact apple technical support .
iPod Nano 2nd Generation Troubleshooting
The second generation iPod introduced a new design and lots of improvements to the player's technology. The new Nano boasted a new enclosure made of aluminum, a slimmer design with rounded corners, a brighter screen, new headphones and a wide selection of colors. The flash drive made hard drive failure less likely, making these a long-lasting mp3 player option. The iPod Nano can fail eventually, but when yours looks dead, all may not be lost.
Hold and ChargeThe first thing to do if you have an iPod that is not turning on is to check to see if the hold button it is engaged. If it is, slide the button to the left to take the iPod off hold and see if the buttons work. If not, check to see whether the iPod is charged. Try plugging your iPod into your computer or a wall socket. If the iPod does not respond, do further troubleshooting.
RestartAfter checking to see if your iPod is charged, you should try restarting your iPod. Hold down the menu and center button on your iPod until it restarts. You will see the Apple icon. If this does not work, move to the next step.
RetryTry another USB cord if your computer does not recognize the iPod. If the new USB cord works, it was the previous USB cord at fault.
ResetIf your computer does not recognize your iPod, try restarting the the computer. It may be that the software on your computer is at fault, and not the actual iPod.
ReinstallIf your iPod is not recognized by your computer, try reinstalling iTunes. Sometimes a fault in the iTunes software will prevent the iPod from being recognized by your computer. Download the iTunes software from the Apple website and install on your computer.
RestoreIf your iPod is not responding, you may need to restore. If your computer recognizes your iPod select your iPod from the left menu in iTunes. Click the restore button from the menu under the picture of your iPod. Make sure that all of the music on your iPod is backed up somewhere else, as the restore will erase the contents of your iPod.

Dvd drive is not recognized , toshiba satellite a75

Hi solorzano581,

I think most likely the problem is with your Windows OS, since you already tried a known good drive and the problem is still there. But before you do a reinstall of the OS, I suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps from this Microsoft KB: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B314060 . Especially the one with deleting the upper filters and lower filters in the registry which works almost 100% of the time.

Check to see if you can still use the drive outside of Windows, by booting from the Windows XP or Vista disc. If you can't boot using the reinstall CD, then most likely the problem would be your hardware (motherboard controller perhaps?) If this is what's happening I suggest that you run your laptop's diagnostics software to verify the hardware functionality.

If all else fails, contact your computer manuacturer for additional hardware/software troubleshooting.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
