Is there a certain mic you have to use to record vocals on cakewalk 4
You can use any mic you want but you have to go to the soundcard mixer and enable the source for recording from the recording properties. If you have a separate soundcard not the onboard one usually it will have it`s own mixer software so you open that up and set it to record from the microphone input if that`s where your mic is inserted. If you use the onboard sound card then go to control panel - sound and select the device you want and also set the recording source. In sonar you have to right click on the track in the left part of the screen. This brings up the properties for that track. The you select the sound card input and output for that audio track.
That shoudl solve your problem.
Of course you will get a much better result if you use a good mic plugged into a mixer or pre amp and send the source into the line in of your sound card and adjust the rest accordingly.
