My Ricoh c2051 ADF won't sense originals. I don't get the beep and if I try to copy, it asks me to select size. The ADF won't feed either copies or scans. What do I do?

There must be something wrong with a sensor or something because the ADF doesn't recognize that I put paper in it.

SOURCE: I'm trying to copy an original 2 sided document.

I suspect that the 'turn around gate" is not actuating. they mechanism can become dry and get stuck. Often a simple fix is to open the left cover of the feeder (feed in section), then lift up the top tray where you place the originals. You will see a black panel which is the "gate". Simply press on this and it will move down and the spring back up when released. That is often enough to free it up for the short-term; however you may need to do this after a period of non-use, as the solenoid that actuates it, bushings etc., are dry.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know, and rate solution

Ricoh is having a major problem with touch screens on a lot of the newer machines. Contact a dealer to see if yours is one of them and for replacement.

Copying 8.5x8.5 original thru document feeder and it doesnt aal print

Most copier has an APS (Auto Paper Selection) as default, 8.5 x8.5 is a square original, I would suggest you manually select the paper tray (e.g. Letter) first (this will temporary disable the APS for this session), then lay it down on the original glass, or ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

If you do not disable APS, you will have paper jamming problem, you do not have 8.5 x8.5 is th paper tray, of course, you may try it feed from the by-pass tray, set the the paper size to 8.5 x8.5 or special size ....... Each manufacturer has a different name for the same function (terminology).

What causes the copy to be lopsided when using the feeder

I'm not sure what lopsided means??? Are you saying that the image is crooked? If you feed the paper 180 degree then the way you are feeding it now, are they still crooked? Also, do the pages get jammed? Also, look to see if one of the hings are broken? If one is broken, it's a dead give away for your problem. If that is not the problem, I would loosing up the screw that hold the adf on and move the adf a bit till the copies come out straight. Once the copies are coming out straight, tighting the adf hing screws and you are done...... Good Luck

I have a Ricoh Aficio 1013 that prints fine but copies are unclear and off

Problem Cause Solution Colored lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About this Machine . Copies appear dirty. Image density is too high. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . Copies appear dirty. Auto Image Density is not selected. On the control panel, select [Auto Density]. The reverse side of an original image is copied. Image density is too high. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . The reverse side of an original image is copied. Auto Image Density is not selected. On the control panel, select [Auto Density]. A shadow appears on copies if you use pasted originals. Image density is too high.
  • Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference .
  • Change the orientation of the original.
  • Put mending tape on the pasted part.
The same copy area is dirty whenever making copies. The exposure glass, scanning glass, or ADF is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . The same copy area is dirty whenever making copies.
  • The original that has already been printed is scanned.
  • Original Type is set to [Text / Photo], and an original with text and photographs that can hardly be distinguished from each other is loaded.
On the control panel, press [Generation Copy], and then begin copying. Copies are too light. Image density is too light. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . Copies are too light. A light copy may result when you use damp or rough grain paper. Use recommended paper only and be sure its storage environment meets the recommended temperature and humidity conditions. For details about recommended paper and the proper way to store it, see "Recommended Paper Sizes and Types" and "Paper Storage", About This Machine . Parts of images are not copied. The original is not set correctly. Set originals correctly. See "Placing Originals", Copy and Document Server Reference . Parts of images are not copied. The correct paper size is not selected. Select the proper paper size. Parts of images are not copied. Even if you place originals in the ADF correctly, margin of a few millimeters on all four sides of the original might not be copied. Use "Create Margin" function to reduce the image of its original size.
For details about missing image area, see "Missing Image Area", Copy and Document Server Reference . images appear only partially. The paper is damp. Use paper that has been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity condition. For details about the proper way to store it, see "Paper Storage", About This Machine . Black lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . White lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . White lines appear. The dustproof glass is dirty. Clean the dustproof glass. See "Cleaning the Dustproof Glass", About This Machine . Copies are blank. The original is not set correctly. When using the exposure glass, face the originals down. When using the ADF, face them up. A moir? pattern is produced on copies. Your original has a dot pattern image or many lines. Place the original on the exposure glass at a slight angle. Black spots appear on the copy of a photographic print. Because of high humidity, the photographic print has stuck to the exposure glass. Place the print on the exposure glass in either of the following ways:
  • Place an OHP transparency on the exposure glass, and then place the print on the OHP transparency.
  • Place the print on the exposure glass, and then place two or three sheets of white paper on it. Leave the ADF open when copying.
White stripes appear on the OHP. Fragments of paper are stuck to the OHP. Use a dry cloth to wipe any paper fragments off the back of the OHP. The image on the back side of duplex copies has mottled blank patches or is smudged. Missing patches and smudges are caused by moisture leaking from the paper.
  • Do not install the machine in areas that are susceptible to low temperatures.
  • Use paper that has been stored where temperature and humidity conditions meet the limitations we recommend. For details about the paper storage conditions we recommend, see "Paper Storage", About This Machine .
  • Install the Optional anti-humidity heater. For details about the anti-humidity heater, contact your service representative.

When use adf with letter paper sise, push print botton then askme paper 5 1/2 X 8 1/2 inch´s, why do this?

is there any sensors on the adf unit, if so is the paper being feed into the adf unit, there might be a bad/defective sensor, try placing a letter size sheet on the document glass and make a copy, if it copies you have a problem with the adf, and it needs to be serviced

Can't work out how to use the multiscan? I press scan and it comes up with multiscan and I put the first piece of paper in but don't seem to get asked for any more sheets and it therefore just scans one...

Anita,

Put the pages in the "multiscan" all at once, not just one sheet at a time. The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) will feed one sheet of your document at a time untill all of the pages are scanned...

It senses paper loaded into the ADF but doesn't feed

There should be a button with settings on it.....ie: 2 sided, collate, etc. There should be an option to change paper settings.......or just clear the whole menu, and go to default to reset the rollers.
