If you have a multi meter check the box caps and resistors for KM 2XX series then replace it whenever required. Some may differ in values like 0.15uF 275x2, 0.33uF 275X2 or 0.47uF 275X2 then resistors may also differ with different models but common to have 1.1k ohms 2watts. Also if caps are open it is good to check the 600V triac and replace it when giving out lower output. I also advise to clean the commutator esp when is is sparking a lot, you may use light sanding and clean it after. Check also if the tachometer is good, there is a resistor-like-coil hidden under a plastic tab with 2 wires. This gives feedback and via a magnet attached to the shaft. Check the motor brush if it is good or worn out. Lastly check all the switches because if one of them is not working properly you wont be able to let the motor run.
A complete mechanical diagram and schematic are posted here at Fixya on another thread. Do a search for KitchenAide Classic Diagram or Drawing. When they stop running suddenly like that, it is usually one of the brushes got jammed up and no longer is in contact with the armature's commutator plates. Use a coin to remove the brush caps at each side, clean the brushes, springs and caps with rubbing alcohol, dry them before replacement. If it still does not work, you have bigger problems that will require a substantial amount of disassembly to isolate.
Pull the plug from the wall outlet. Remove the mixer's end cap and you will see the wire coming into the mixer thru a strain relief bushing. Push it in and then the cord will be easy to remove.
how do you know diagram is wrong , you could have wired it wrong the timer kit i belive comes with 3 or 4 different diagrams for that mixer you need to pick the right one
I have a PDF file entitled "kitchenaid service manual" that I could send you that I got online and can't remember where. If so my email address is [email protected] Send me an email and I'll reply with the PDF enclosed. Otherwise try a google search of the above and you might be able to find it.
It's looks old but covers all the essentials including a wiring diagram
