SOURCE: How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI
The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.
Connect and Enjoy

If the tv has normal stereo outputs, you will use those. if it only has a digital output, your best option will be to buy a new receiver.

Usually by looking at their manuals and working out the best compatible options between any two devices. I'm not being sarcastic. READ the manuals.
My personal advice (contrary to any manual) is to take the BEST video from each source directly to the TV if it has multiple inputs; route basic analog audio from the Cable Box to the TV for those times you don't need hi-fi audio; take the BEST digital audio from each source and connect it directly to the Pioneer.
NO signal ever benefits from a detour to or through a device that doesn't excel at processing it; or through excessive lengths or hops of expensive cable on the way TO the best device that handles any particular signal.
Avoid unnecessary or multiple digital-analog or a/d conversions.
My personal rig has no video entering the receiver and no high-end audio entering the TV and NO PROBLEMS.
