Error 5 is pointing to heating problem. Here are the parts that may be malfunctioning:
1- Thermal sensor not registering heating. Replace it.
2- Heater not heating up. Check continuity on heating element. If there is no continuity, (This is rare). Replace heater (Thermo block).
The problem can be linked to:
1- Missed descaling of machine for extended period.
2- Use of automatic descaling method suggested by Jura. Descale the machine every three months using Manual descaling method.. Services Unlimited Inc Parts Guru Since 1988
Your hot water must come from your coil in boiler and not from a seperate hot water heater - more then likely furnace hasn't been on for heating your house nor has it been on for any draw of hot water. You have to wait till it goes on and brings the water temperature up to your setting or get a hot water tank put in or a new type wall mounted gas instant hot water unit.
The common cause is that the frothing connection is faulty. You can look at the Guide to clean the Jura frothing connection, or try this. Take some bicarb or vinegar, dissolve in 400ml luke warm water, select cappuccino maintenance under the options, or press the milk button. Run the complete mixture through then. Run about 600ml of plain water through the spout. Turn the sport from froth to milk and back every 10 seconds.
If this does not work, then there may be a need to decal the machine.
There are three possible causes to milk not frothing:
1. The frothing tap is blocked: to unblock either use the cappuccino cleaner from Jura, or in 400ml of luke warm water dissolve a teaspoon of vinegar or 1/2 teaspoon of bicarb and run this liquid through the frother until completely finished (or run the cleaning program). The run about 600-800ml of water through the system. While passing the liquid through let the tap rest at froth, and milk setting for 5 seconds at a time. Repeat if necessary. To prevent this in future clean frother after 5 minute of none use.
2. The breathing nozzle is blocked, you can use the Jura Maintenance guide to see how to disassemble and clean and reassemble, but most Juras come with a spare, so replace it.
3. The machine needs to be descaled, since there is lime or scale in it.
I've just taken delivery of an S9 and my lattes were lukewarm too. What you have to do is move the dial on the steamer to the 3 o clock position. See http://cdn2.libsyn.com/coffeegeek/jura_frothxpress.mov?nvb=20081110133816&nva=20081111133816&t=018ee7ad85c33f422c6a5 . Latte I just made was piping hot. If that doesn't fix it, try the Products settings. If still lukewarm I think you should contact your dealer, maybe you have a duff machine.
