Our cable company has converted most of the chanels we pay for to digital. Only one of our tvs is digital. The cable co.says that we can rent or purchase a dta convertor, so I bought an rca 800b1. How does this work with cable?
Most cable systems provide digital channels in a QAM format where Broadcast is in the 8VSB format. The RCA unit makes no mention if it is able to demodulate QAMs and should not be expected to. In addition, most cable QAMs are encrypted and need an addressable converter supplied by your cable system to view. A lot of cable systems provide local broadcast stations in the "Clear QAM" format and are not encrypted and viewable with digital televisions that support the QAM format, (most do). Most over the air broadcast DTA converters do not support the QAM format and will not demodulate the cable QAMs.
