Hitachi cordless drill charger not working

I have 2 x chargers with a problem. Charger 1- I plug in the charger, the slow flashing red light comes on as per normal, then I plug in the battery, and within a few seconds, the light goes off. The charger does not charge at all, and the fan noise does not come on either. Charger 2- I plug the charger in and turn on power, the red light comes on and flashes fast with no battery in it. If i put the battery in, it just keeps flashing fast. It does not charge. I am disappointed with this Hitachi product, as I have paid for one of the most expensive drill and impact drivers there is on the market, and 2 x chargers have stopped working. Can anybody please help me solve my challenge here?

Opening the chargers up is NOT safe as there is a very high voltage (~400VDC) deadly!!! even with the power off and disconnected. Take it to an electronic service place, they should be able to check it for you. (Charger 2) Sound like you have a "load" on your output connection. The load is usually supposed to be the battery but it is detecting what it thinks is a bad battery. You may have a dodgy component on your board or some dust that is "loading" the battery detection circuit. Maybe a good clean out will resurrect it. (Charger 1) could be the feedback circuit to control the FET. Again, maybe a good clean out could bring it back to life. Hope it helps.

The various rates of flashing are error indicator codes and should be explained on the charger case. They are for the condition of the battery's though and not the charger. It sounds like the charger itself is bad. Can you return it for a replacement? Is it still in Warranty? For whats its worth, I went from Milwaukee tools to Bosch to De Walt before being satisfied with performance. I hope this helps.

That being said, check the videos out, perhaps can get it to work after all for a while longer.

Problem with hitachi chargers

I live by hitachi, one of the good things about it is lowes will exchange them as long as you have a receipt and it's under 30 days. If not chargers are not very expensive, or you can send it back for repairs. I have 10 of those combo packs and never had a problem with a single one, for you to get 2 is a freak accident.

Charger light flashes with no battery charging. I plug the charger into the wall and the damaged battery light flashes. This is a brand new charger one day old.

The charger is damaged. Return it to the place of purchase and demand a refund or replacement. If you paid by credit card call the credit card company and cancel that transaction.

Replacement batteries for the Workforce 18V cordless drill are available @ 888-315-3080 for $15.00+

I currently have 2 on the way via UPS

Note: This drill is no longer marketed under the WorkForce name (and Home Depot won't help you) but is marketed under several other names including Hillman.

Battery charger doesn't charge. light blinking fast. I don't think it's the batteries because I have 2 and they were working fine.

Plug in the charger and then being careful to only touch one contact with one lead use an ohm/voltage meter to check the voltage and see if the charger is putting out any voltage.

Batteries not charging

sounds like my charger, not making good contact

wiggle the battery around while pushing down and you can probably get it to make contact

sounds like you just need a new charger

Batteries don't charge. I have a new battery, and neither of the old or new batteries work in the charger. I get flashing lights only, sometimes red, sometimes green, but in the end, the battery isn't...

Dust getting in the charger is a problem, Try blowing it out with a moisture-free dust remover, found at most any store. Green flashing means improper power, due to dust or power from the outlet, try a differant wall outlet. Red flashing means the charger or battery is to hot and must cool down before it will charge. The charger will not charge a battery if the lights are flashing. Solid Red light means it is charging and solid green light means it is charged. Plug the charger in first before putting the battery on the charger. If the charger has been droped or hit the floor the coil inside could have broke loose and dammaged the charger requiring it to be replaced.
