Keyboard not working at all

The keyboard doesn't work at any time, can't get into boot setup because the keys don't work. Tried removing and resetting the keyboard; no luck. Dell Inspiron 1501, just over a year old of course, so not covered by warranty. I've managed to hook up an external keyboard, but this sort of defeats the purpose of having a "laptop", y'know? Kinda like to have the keyboard working again.
Any ideas?

Keyboard is definitely bad and will need to be replaced but try one more thing just to be sure.

GO into the BIOS by pressing F2 on your external keyboard. In the BIOS, there is an option in there to reset to factory defaults after you do that save changes and exit but after you completely exit, unhook the external keyboard and see if your laptop keyboard works. If not then you know for sure without a doubt the laptop keyboard needs to be replaced.

Maybe your inspiron 1501 keyboard connect wire to main board lost, try to reconnect it.

Or go to Device Manager with your external keyboard to reset keyboard driver.

LG Keybo2 Will not stay turned off, have removed battery to try and reset but when I put battery in, just reboots, hold down the OFF button, turns off but then immediatly reboots and turns back on

F keys don't work on reboot. Work on Power on boot.

When powering on the F2 key will get me to Bios Setup, F8 key will get me to Safe Mode, and F12 key will let me change Boot Device. Everything is normal when up on XP operating system. If I reboot, None of the mentioned function keys work. Instead I get a message of a "Keyboard Failure", but system will come up OK. But, on the reboot, I want to use one of those function keys.
I have a DELL 2400 Dimension running Windows Home XP. I am using a Logitech EX-110 (Combo keyboard & mouse)
This seems very similar to another write up on this site.
Any ideas? Don't tell me to toggle the keyboard. I tried it with no positive results

Emachine when i turn it on says press f2 to start setup but ive tried it but it wont do anything why?

Some keyboards have an f-lock key that you enable quickly as the computer starts to boot. Only then will the F2 button work. If you are too slow to hit the f-lock key the computer will boot past the time window that allows you to enter the setup.

Keyboard for lenovo R500 laptop not working

What do you mean not working? Is it that certain keys don't work, or the whole keyboard does not work?

Maybe your keyboard has been hijacked by a virus. Have you tried booting up in Safe Mode to see if it works?

Turn off the computer, then hit the power buttonto turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly untilyou see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. SafeMode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, this is normal

Ok tried to do hard reset.....now it doesn't want

need a little more info ie: what have you tried ?

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart if this fails to fix the problem

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution

restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time
click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

hope this helps you

On boot with battery or on power same result. The computer boots to window sign on screen but mouse and keyboard do not work. On reboot tried F2 for setup screen which does work but then once at setup...

i would have told you to go into the bios but seen as you say that F2 key does not work on boot indicates that the keyboard has failed, to check this try another keyboard and see if you get the same result, or if the keyboard is USB try it in a different USB port

hope this helps

kind regards

Can't enter BIOS setup with F2

Try using another application that has a use for the F2 key. I'm not totally convinced that your keyboard is good. It is possible for just one key to fail. Happens quite often.
