The keyboard doesn't work at any time, can't get into boot setup because the keys don't work. Tried removing and resetting the keyboard; no luck. Dell Inspiron 1501, just over a year old of course, so not covered by warranty. I've managed to hook up an external keyboard, but this sort of defeats the purpose of having a "laptop", y'know? Kinda like to have the keyboard working again.
Any ideas?
Keyboard is definitely bad and will need to be replaced but try one more thing just to be sure.
GO into the BIOS by pressing F2 on your external keyboard. In the BIOS, there is an option in there to reset to factory defaults after you do that save changes and exit but after you completely exit, unhook the external keyboard and see if your laptop keyboard works. If not then you know for sure without a doubt the laptop keyboard needs to be replaced.
Maybe your inspiron 1501 keyboard connect wire to main board lost, try to reconnect it.
Or go to Device Manager with your external keyboard to reset keyboard driver.
When powering on the F2 key will get me to Bios Setup, F8 key will get me to Safe Mode, and F12 key will let me change Boot Device. Everything is normal when up on XP operating system. If I reboot, None of the mentioned function keys work. Instead I get a message of a "Keyboard Failure", but system will come up OK. But, on the reboot, I want to use one of those function keys.
I have a DELL 2400 Dimension running Windows Home XP. I am using a Logitech EX-110 (Combo keyboard & mouse)
This seems very similar to another write up on this site.
Any ideas? Don't tell me to toggle the keyboard. I tried it with no positive results
