>>The Following is the Instruction File for Setting the Air Mixture Screws. Any Input is Appreciated. The Procedure is the Same for 1 or 2 Mixture Screws, Just Use the Instruction File and Skip Over the Section with the Missing Mixture Screw ( Usually the H Mixture Screw). >>Now Setting the Air Mixture Screws: >>****Turn the Idle Air (L) and Main Air (H) Mixture Screws In Until SNUG **Do Not Jam** Then Reverse Both Screws 1 1/2 Turns. Set the Throttle Full Open, Start the Engine. >>Turn the Main Air (H) Mixture Screw Clockwise Until Proper Revs are Obtained. **Carefully Use your Finger and Move the Governor Arm to Rev the Engine (on Chainsaws and Trimmers Use the Trigger to Rev the Engine) Until you Reach Max RPMs (on Chainsaws and Trimmers, the RPMs are Not Set to MAX. Set to Max and then Reverse the Setting Screw 1/4 or 1/2 Turn. If the H Mixture Screw is Set too High; the Engine will be Starved for the Oil in the Gas and Damage the Piston and Jug/Cylinder) and the Engine is Running Proper at Full Throttle Up a Grade and for Chainsaws and Trimmers they Do Not Bog DOwn Under a Load. Occasionally you May have to Turn this Counter Clockwise to Achieve the Proper Revs.** >>Now Allow the Engine to Idle. Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required. >>Now Set the Idle Air (L) Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Rapidly Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.****

Hi Cherri,
I think this is the manual for your machine. It should tell you all you need to know:
file:///C:/Users/Jim/Downloads/Homelite-String-Trimmer-Parts-Manual-ST200-String-Trimmer-UT-20501-A.pdf
If it only runs with choke on, then mixture is too lean or idle set to low. Adjust mixture initially at 1.5 turns, then move in or out as needed for highest idle when warm. Make sure no leaks or clogged filter when adjusting.
Hard to say with string feed, but are you sure you are not putting the spool in backwards?
Remove the Torx screws holding the rear cover on. Then remove the larger Torx screws holding the muffler on to the exhaust port of the cylinder. There will be a gasket there. The spark arrestor will be mounted in the opening to the muffler. You can scrape or burn the carbon off of it. If the spark arrestor is real clogged up, then the muffler probably is too. It should also be cleaned. The inside of the engine probably is carboned up too( if arrestor and muffler are). They all should be cleaned of carbon. It helps the engine perform at its' best and breathe like it needs to.
The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.
most trimmers are 50:1. or 40:1. i would use synthetic 2 cycle oil and use the 50:1 ratio. i know guys with trimmers that require 50:1, and they use synthetic at 80:1 with no problems for years. they say the engine runs cleaner. i am a part-time lawn care operator.
