Possible purchase My current top load machine is leaking water all of the floor and the bearings are going out. I have the chance to purchase a used Kenmore Front Load Model 417-42042100 Washer and 417-82042101 Dryer. I have read some comments about the machine and it seems to have had a lot of issues! Would this be a bad choice of machine and should I look for a different one?

Hi. from my research, these machines will have issues that are frequent that deal with the drainage system and motor control as well. the control boards are average in their respective categories but, overall, these units will preform well during the short life span.

If you are looking for a long term relationship with your washer and dryer system, i would go with another brand like LG or Maytag.

Intermittent water on floor

Check the inlet valve hoses, even if inlet is at the back, the water may drip down and flow on the front part on the machine. There you also have the PUMP, a faulty pump may leak intermittently.
Here you get all diagrams and parts for your appliance.

Intermittent water observed under machine

Difficult if not seen. Most common water on the floor senario is a drain pump leaking:or a perrished pipe from friction.or sometimes, water backs up from the house drainage system due to a restriction.

I have a GE Model WJRE5500g0WW washing machine. It is two years old, purchased new. After the clothes had spun dry, water was observed on floor. Drain tube checked and okay, not plugged up. Before I open...

Normally water on the floor can be from a few places. Mostly a faulty drain pump: possibly a tear in one of the pipes: rust in the drum: possibly water in the centre which comes from the bearings.(if the machine makes a racket when spinning, then i would look at the spin bearing collum). even concider drain pipe at outlet not running out onto floor. Either tilt washer back about 45 deg. to look underneath or possibly remove panel to allow a visual of the motor and components. See if you can pick up any indecationof water having run down from a particular spot. If so rectify. Hope it helped. .Ge washers not farmiliar to me but most problems are similar.

Water leaking onto the floor

Hi,

hat leak may not be in the machine. It may be one of the hoses going into it. Look to find out where the water is actually coming from. If it is a hose from the faucet behind the machine, the hose can easily be replaced at a low cost. If it is only leaking with hot water, check the water inlet valve at the rear of machine where the hoses connect, top left rear facing it. If it is leaking and running down the left side, it is the wrong side for the pump unless it running across the floor and out the left side. If it were the hose, it would leak all the time. It sounds like the hot side has gone bad on the inlet valve. You can save several dollars by fixing this yourself.

Tilt it back and look for two screws, near each corner on the bottom front. Remove these screws and pull the bottom toward you. It should lift off the clips on top. Run the machine carefully, moving parts and see if the leak is actually coming from the left rear and from somewhere up high. First try cold water, then hot. If it leaks on one and not the other, then it is the valve. Be sure to unplug the machine if you decide to change this part. Also you might want to mark where the wires go back to be sure you do not reverse the hot and cold water, as well as fittings and connections. The water leakage evidence should be visible. If not, wash a load and watch for where water leakage occurs. Just look. Do not touch since there will be electrical current supplied.

Hope i helped you.

Loud spin cycle - leaks water

No boot on a top loader, the tub seal and bearing are gone, water leaked from the tub seal, rusted the bearing and quite possibly the milk stool and transmission. Check your warranty, the transmission may have a 5 year limited warranty, usually it will include the tub seal and bearing with the kit.

Leaks water on floor and spin cycle very loud

if it sounds like a boeing jet, you will need a new seal & bearing kit. This is something a technician would have to do. many "special" spanner wrenches and spring tools required

Washer wabbles and leaks

Tilt the machine forward so the rear feet come off the ground, then set it down, this will reset your feet to level. if problem persists, you can lean the washer on its back and inspect the suspension with a light.

Brown spotting on washed clothes

chances are if you have eliminated anything thats got in by accident that the drum bearings are about to go, the drum bearings are protected by a water seal, this has started to leak and is now washing the grease out of the bearings back into the wash, you may also find a small amount of water on the floor, if you also remove the back and look behind the large pulley you may also see brown water marks running from the center of the outer drum

the next step will be a very noisy spin, like a rumbling noise

DRUM BEARINGS sorry
