Edges of prints are black smudged

When we print, the prints are getting dirty edges, seems to be a repeating pattern, the dirty edges run along the long side of the paper, ideas to fix?

Hmm... This sounds like it is a toner problem. If your roller is getting too much toner then it just globs it onto the paper even though the drum is not asking for it. Are you using a new toner cartridge or a re-filled one? Is it from Brother or a 3rd party? I suggest you remove the toner cartridge and check inside the printer. Clean any spilled toner. Check the toner cartridge for leaks .. give it a good shake and see if it is leaking. If you have another toner cartridge, you can replace it to test. You may need to pint a few pages to see a change. Another test could be to print a few (2-5) "BLANK" pages. The printer should not be depositing any toner. If no smudge or the smudge stays the same, then the toner cartridge is the likely problem. If the smudge is there, but gets smaller, then clean your printer.

Good luck!

Can only be two things the drum or the fuser. More than likely drum they last about 4 toners i think.

Learn the art of getting a page to stop halfway threw printing, you want to stop the page after the drum has put a image on the paper but before paper has gone threw the fuser (hotbit).

Once you have mastered the position correctly by stopping the printing by opening the door and removing drum/toner cartridge, to reveal the paper that is printed but can be rubbed off, we will know if marks are coming from the drum (you will see them) or from the fuser, if print is fine.

SOURCE: Smudge marks on paper; otherwise normal

fuser is usually replaced as a assembly, it's the hot bit a back.

Can only be two things the drum or the fuser as our headstrong friend has correctly explained.

I had the same problem at work, what i did is clean the Drum unit corona wire with paper towel cause the moving the blue lever alone doesn't clean it properly.

SOURCE: Toner smudges along the extreme right side of the paper

If the smudges are gradually fading then it's likely just excess toner hitting the fuse drum. Try a few cleaning cycles/test prints and see if that makes it go away. If not, see if you can get a replacement toner.

What causes smudges along one edge of print

If your printer has a maintenance cycle try running it. The drum might be dirty.

HP m1522mfp printer repeats print when printing. The top line will repeat further down in a uniform pattern all the way down the printer. The toner does not smudge after print though

This seems to be problem with Printer drivers. You have to uninstall and reinstall the Printer drivers.

Either do it from the Printer software disk or Download from the www.hp.com website.

I have a Canon Imagerunner 1023if and have black smudges along the left edge of paper, both copies and printed directly from computer.

this is possibly a problem in the fuseing part of your machine, where the paper heats up at the back, the fuser roller could be worn out. and your toner could be sticking to it.

HP 1300 -- toner is smudged along the left edge after crinkly sound

Hi:

This is a common problem with some HP printers. The fuser sleeve inside the fuser assembly gets torn along the edge and print can no longer be fused in that area and the paper will crinkle there. The only solution would be to replace the fuser, which for that printer it would not be worth repairing.

Samsung printer problems clp-510 I've had this printer for just over two years - good printer. However recently it is producing very dirty print outs, there are repeated patterns of smudges. What can I...

Too many things for just one solution, If transfer belt is worn out, you'll get that, color drums can cause that, when the fuser wears out toner sticks and transfers to new prints. You have to unplug machine in the middle of a print cycle before print goes into fuser and determine if the problem is fuser or before

Samsung scx5315f printing black smudge along edge of page

The fact that it's printing anything suggests that it is not a Toner problem. Remove the toner, and have a look at the run inside the printer, checking for any excess toner which is in there. Also, check the Drum and Imaging Unit for damage, wear and tear etc. There will also be a static strip near the imager, with a little tab which you can sweep across the unit to clean it.

Smudge mark along entire right side of every page.

HP 1600 is quite a decent little printer, so you shouldn't be dissapointed - if it's working properly, which clearly it's not in this case.

It seems that you have 2 problems here.

Firstly it shouldn't click loudly, so you need to be talking to whoever you bought the printer from.

The smudging - is probably a dirty fuser.
There are laser printer cleaning sheets, that will work quite well, but ideally it needs a little bit of dismantling to get at the fuser to clean the two fuser rollers.

I've seen lots of these with dirty fusers, and a clean with IPA does the trick.
