My friend has an old computer that I can't seem to find any info on...she bought it a few years ago from Walmart. It is a Balance Digital Technology CP4401 Desktop PC. She is need of some more memory and I see that it uses DDR(SDRAM), but that is all I see... it doesn't tell me if it uses PC2700 or PC3300 or what exactly. I would liek to know what memory to buy for her computer

There is a way to find out what memory is in the computer and what it may be able to handle. I use a site called www.Crucial.com . There is a scanning device that will scan your system and it will report back to you what is installed and how much you can put in. As well as show you their items to purchase for the upgrade. I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion a FixYa rating. If not then please comment to this post and I will try to help you further. Thank you for your support
Hi, that machine will take DDR266, DDR333, or DDR400 RAM according to the Tech Specs. All the RAM in this class uses the same form factor, so they're interchangable on motherboards, but the higher speeds run faster. You can find the specs here:

Sorry but even if you buy a tire and the car sits a long time in the sun that tire will dry rot. A lot of people do not know this and this is why you see camping trailers with covers over their tires in the summer because of the damage sun and weather can do.
Once it runs all of the tests, its good to go. If you keep having that problem. someone is disconnecting the battery or resetting the computer or somehow the computer is losing memory. Have a shop check out why.
Your friends are probably right however the correct term is the laser alignment is off or it just conked out. If you aren't afraid, open the case to see if there is any debris in the cd drive. Go to an office supply store and pick up a can of computer duster.
6 year old tv probably not digital ready. The converter box will work if tv is on channel 3 and you use a UHF antenna. Most converter box connections have 75 ohm connectors, your tv may have the round connector to accept the input signal. If you have screw on terminals on the tv you will have to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a matching transformer to go between the tv and the converter box. UHF antenna can be made out of a coat hanger. Just make a circle clean the paint off ends and attach. Or just buy a digital booster antenna at WalMart.
just plug in the memory stick in the old computer and copy/paste files from the old computer to the memory stick (don't forget to look at the size the files might be over sized and the memory stick wont save them).
now after finishing the copy paste from the old computer to the memory stick, take the memory stick out and plug it in the new computer and copy/paste the files from the memory stick to the computer.
you may need to do these steps for few times if you have a large amount of data
